Do those gears NEED to be removed or could only the starter be removed and plugged?

Haha I want it gone in the name of weight savings. Plus the gears are stripped anyway so I could spend 40+ bucks repairing it or just take the sodding thing out.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I want to permanently remove the starter for kick only. I found a couple threads discussing certain gears that can be removed and use of a freeze plug in place of the Mikes block off kit. I might as well ask my questions while Im at it! Does the right...

Hi all New owner of a 79 XS. Mild cafe-ish with drag bars, bar ends and Mikes gauges. Didnt come with a tool kit (surprise) and I cant figure out where I would keep one if I had one. Where do you all keep a small tool kit? There isnt much storage space that I can see. :confused: :shrug:
