    MikesXS BS38 Carb Boots

Does anyone have a suggestion for good carb boots to replace the OG ones? I bought a set of boots off of Mikes XS, but they aren't notched in the same place as the originals, and the vacuum barb sits higher and is really tight to the valve cover. In addition, it seems like the carbs don't sit as...

    Don't skimp, buy oem!

Recently I had an issue with my rpms taking off. Very air leak-y kind of behavior. I pulled the timing rod and greased it, replaced the timing advance springs, replaced the enricher seals, replaced the throttle shaft seals,(twice!), And cleaned and rejetted the carbs. I hopedh on the bike today...

    Does this make sense?

'79 special with stock pipes and uni foam air filters. I went up 1 size on my pilot and main and dropped the needle one clip (leaner). Bench synced the carbs. Bike starts up right away but idle is rough. RPMs climb even after putting a set of OEM Yamaha advance springs on. When setting the...

After I found that one of my carb floats was buster, I decided to straight up rebuild the carbs. I theth them back on, kick, kick, vroom. But I noticed it sounded like it was firing on one cylinder. I took the plug off the left side and nothing happenedn so it WAS only running on the right. I...

Ok, so the bike idles great but when I give it some throttle the rpms take off. I've read through every old thread on climbing rpms I could find but couldn't find a solution to my issue. Here's what I've tried. Removed advance timing rod, cleaned it, regreased it, removed Bob weights, lubed...

    Timing question

I come for sage like advice! I am tuning up the bike in case it ever stops snowing in Western PA. Cam chain. Check. Valves. Check. Timing. Aaahh. We have a problem. After gapping the points, the right cylinder was dead on. The left, however, is too advanced. The plate under the points is...

    Headlight Bulb

I currently have a dual headlight setup that has 2 35W 12V H4 bulbs. They are... ok at best. I would like to put something with a little more throw distance to it for the limited amount of night riding that I do. I was thinking about these...

    Carb question

On my 79 special (bs38 carbs, I believe) I noticed that my air filters are starting to leak gas. Just a little bit. I stuff a rag under them when it's sitting and it keeps it from getting on the motor. I know my floats are 100% on so what I'm wondering is what should i check next? Should I get a...

    My latest electrical kerfluffel

Last week I went for a short ride, about twenty minutes, when the bike started running like ass and died. There was gas in the tank so I figured it was probably something electrical. I got it home, charged the battery, and started it back up. now the headlights wouldn't come on nor would the...

    Top end rebuild wish list

So it's pretty inevitable that I'm going to have to replace my cam chain this winter. That got me to thinking, I should probably replace some other "things" while I'm in there. I have the gaskets for the engine. I'm thinking I should replace the piston rings too. What else would you guys replace...

Stuttering and Sputtering. In case anyone else has the same issue!

The scoot has been sputtering horribly lately. I couldn't figure out why. I thoroughly cleaned the carbs, replaced spark plugs, cables, and caps, etc., etc., etc... When I would get about halfway back on the throttle... Sputter. When I hit a bump... Sputter. There are A LOT of bumps in Johnstown...
