I think I'd like to change my tappet cover studs for normal bolts!!!

Yes. That is it! Thank you. So rather than regularly tighten/untighten hard steel into soft aluminium, screw a steel stud deep into the aluminium only once - then every time you take a tappet cover off you are steel on steel!!! Got it, Brilliant. Thanks again, that was close!!

I think I'd like to change my tappet cover studs for normal bolts!!!

Good Evening from Scotland, you beautiful people. Long vertical studs pulling the engine together I get - but WHY DO WE HAVE STUDS FOR THE TAPPET COVERS? What is the engineering there?

The art stores asking pure fortunes for mould-making pastes, as per. Turns out all ye need is silicon and cornflour combined like you're making bread dough - nearly perfect result on first try!!

    "The Basketcase" Episode I : A Slow-motion Build

Got another question... Between the dials - a wooden dashboard? Is that normal for that version or a bit of posh upgrading from the earlier owner, who I assume knew James Bond and went to Monte Carlo casinos??

    "The Basketcase" Episode I : A Slow-motion Build

Hi 59Tebo. Checking out your table - yes yes yes - I way prefer your direct approach to they vertical leverage hydraulic over-reactions that could take your fingers off. But what's gave me a wee hard on though is your engine stand. Can you tel me a little about it? I'll be honest though, I know...

1.5" of play on kickstand post

Cheers for naming Oilite, grizld1. I didn't know that name. My previous searches for 'brass sleeve' and 'brass bush' were hopeless, but when I looked up Oilite - bingo! And there's a good range available in the UK. I added a grease nipple last week so on the same page there. I'm not confident I...

1.5" of play on kickstand post

5twins - yes, I agree. But there's a long story... when I bought my bike 1985/1984 it didn't have a centre stand. So I bought one off the local bike breaker - who was a c*nt. It didn't fit well, had no armature bit sticking out. I thought it was normal that I had to bury my toe up under the...

    Cleaner Engine Stand Plans

Here's my contribution to the idea pool, though prob ideas all subliminally knocked from you beautiful people and this very same web site ages ago. So fk. I try to recycle. So, the engine stand is kitchen worktop sink cutout, castors off something, tubing off a cheap office desk. Fkd up there -...

1.5" of play on kickstand post

That sounds good, Scott. I'd much rather file down beads of weld than original steel. Thanks.

1.5" of play on kickstand post

It's not adversely affecting my life, but after years of kick starting the bike while on the sidestand, the surfaces have worn enough so the tip of the arm has 1.5" of play. The wear is slightly concave on both surfaces. Anyone any ideas how to tighten this up? I'm trying to shape a couple of...

How do you open a neutral sensor?

Thank you, 2M. I searched the site but managed to totally miss that page. It's weird to read it and see my whole recent thought process already laid out for me. So I've reinstalled it and tested it in position - my continuity meter is very happy. Thanks again.

How do you open a neutral sensor?

I should have explained the bike is in bits and I'm testing things as they go back on! I thought this was a switch.

How do you open a neutral sensor?

Sorry everyone, apologies. I might be wasting people's time but I need more advice with this. I assumed this was a switch. I thought the circuit went from the screw - via an actuator operated by the brass centre - to the steel body and on to engine earth. I was getting no continuity between the...

How do you open a neutral sensor?

First place I looked, angus67, but currently around £20 second hand. It's out the bike and failing continuity test. Even if I wasn't on a budget I couldn't let myself be held to ransom like that over a simple switch. I'm going to have to take it apart. I'm going in from the top - looks like...

How do you open a neutral sensor?

Any of you fine people know the least destructive way of opening a faulty neutral sensor? Would appreciate suggestions for going in from the top - I imagine if I lever off/destroy the lower black plastic retainer then, even if I rebuild it successfully, I'll be worrying the thing fails and bits...

Is the engine's bottom mount rod where it's weight is balanced?
