(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

I reassembled the clutch with the washers in the correct place now, I was having the same issue at first, but now it feels like it's starting to free up??! Video attached below. Video attached of clutch lever being pulled, in first gear, while spinning the back tire. Looks like it's started to...

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

Hey @123petey Thanks for the reply. The washer/spacer - the red coded one, I actually found it against against the case after all, so I have that washer at the end of the line. Swapping over the "blue" spacer to the correct position now. This is the washer that's on the outside of my...

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

Quick update on my progress. I've created a chart of the tests I've ran, and the results. With both the starter gear removed, and the kick start removed, the same problem persists with the clutch installed. This leads me to think the clutch assembly is causing the problem. @5twins you mentioned...

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

---- Hey @5twins After removing my entire clutch assembly this is what I'm finding. With the entire assembly off, while rotation the rotor, the bike will shift into all gears smoothly. This is a good sign, yeah? Seems to potentially limit it down to the clutch, which looks like I have a few...

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

Hey Thuban, Finally am at the garage and have the day to try and sort out what the deal is. Checking off my list. I've left the key off, pulled the clutch lever in, and kicked the bike over, it initially was turning the engine and had some compression, but gave out after several kick overs, to...

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

Hey Brassneck, Precisely. The same thing was happening either way. I haven't been down to the garage to test the kickstart with key off yet, but will tonight or tomorrow. With the clutch plates removed, I know that it was still locking up. I haven't dove into anything except the starter gear...

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

Hey 5twins, I did, this was a big point in the video from the tech, so I made sure to align the dot, and double check. I wish it was this, but yes, the dot is aligned.

(1977 Xs650D) Bike Stalling on 1st Gear, Clutch Engaging....

Hey all, I'm so awfully close to riding, and thought today would be the day after a long couple nights of wiring nonsense straightened out. But I've had a strange thing happen, that I need help sorting out. Bike: 1977 XS650D I had the bike idling nice today, was letting it warm up to go on...

Blowing 20amp fuse when turning ignition key

Copy that. I ended up shifted it around and reinstalling the sensor plate several times and finally got my timing set. Just took several attempts. Now onto cleaning the carbs

Blowing 20amp fuse when turning ignition key

I ended up shaving it down and putting it back together... but now it doesn't even want to start... coughs a ton but won't hold an idle. I'm contemplating going back to points. Does anyone know if I do, do I have to convert back to the original coils, or can I keep the dual out put coil? Would...

Blowing 20amp fuse when turning ignition key

Thanks Stinky78, I did the same damn thing. At the time assumed, and didn't read the fine print. I'll file it down tomorrow and get it timed right! Appreciate it.

Blowing 20amp fuse when turning ignition key

Quick update, I found after checking everything and investing in a multimeter, that my right hand control unit was all live oddly enough. I replaced it with a new right hand control unit, to then find that my handler bars weren't properly grounded. I grounded the starter button with my power...

Blowing 20amp fuse when turning ignition key

Hey all, I have a 77' xs650 with PMA + Reg/Rec combo, E-Advance, and shorai antigravity battery. My 20amp fuse is blowing each time I turn my ignition key to on. The moment I turn the switch, I see the bulb blow. If I disconnect the ground to the right handle bar switch, the fuse does not...

    Not a regulator?

seeing now, it's the safety relay. Do I need this? I have a PMA so the yellow wire isn't needed. I have electric start and am planning on keeping the electric start.

    Not a regulator?

Hey all, trying to identify the component below on my 1977 XS650. I just put on the combo regulator/rectifier unit, and have removed the regulator + rectifier, but now I'm seeing this, and it's awful close to looking like the regulator. Is this is the neutral safety relay? I don't have any...

Main Harness Wiring Question 1977 XS650D

86 Guys, I think it may have just been a slightly weakened battery. I plugged up the battery to a jumper and all my turn signals flash properly with my headlight plugged in. Cheers

Main Harness Wiring Question 1977 XS650D

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yeah the MikesXs harness definitely has a few flaws with some wires that don't match the diagram in color. However through process of elimination I sorted it all out and matched up with the stock diagram. I am having one wiring issue however. I've been working...
