My Sv1000 will do that too. 118hp and lots of torque. I really miss my XS650 though. I wish I did not sell it...that was a real crude basic motorcycle. Fun to ride and work on. My old BMW is mellow like the XS and a real joy to ride and listen to. I agree that fast bikes tempt you and all the...

I almost bought one, but stepped back and stopped my self. I really think it is a nice reliable and good performing bike, but something is missing there for me. I wound up getting a R100 BMW used instead. I also picked up a Suzuki 2003 SV1000S. Both these bikes cost a lot less than the new...

Ok, checked with another meter with headlight on. It is 12.7 at idle and 14.3 at 3000 rpm. Does that seem more acceptable range? I have not yet changed the stock rectifier circuit yet. I will need to get to that next.

    Charging questions

Thanks Retired. Yes it was with headlight off. I have a halogen headlight. I used the stock connector ground. Plugged into harness in stock location with 3 pin style connector block. Wired it just as shown in posted diagrams on site. I just ran a quick test to see if it works. I will throw up...

Whats the lowest profile skinniest helmet out there ?

Those Germans are so thorough...I crashed an SR500 back in the early 90's. I was lucky it was a full face helmet...

    engine rev,s with throttle closed

Check advance mechanism, oil it and check springs. If advance is sticking it will cause the engine to hang and not return to idle.

brake disc don't fit with new brake pads

Brake bleeding tool is a great thing to have. I use it a lot & it makes these jobs a lot faster. Need to put Teflon tape on threads of bleed fittings on caliper and it works great.

brake disc don't fit with new brake pads

Please post some pics when you can. Dual front disks is cool set up. I found that(for me) leaving out the shims for some reason, the brakes don't drag or squeal. I have Mikes XS pads. It may be that the hole in the back of the pad does not fit the little tab on the shim quite right. Without the...

    1977 XS650 Build

Looks great. Are you using clear coat on it? I recently did my valve tappet covers and tried a high heat clear on one, but did not like the look. Wound up stripping it off. It was sort of yellowish. Let me know if you find a good clear to use to protect shine.

brake disc don't fit with new brake pads

I may be mistaken, but I think brake cleaner is a strong solvent for cleaning grease off rotors etc. I don't know but it may harm rubber parts inside. Anyone know?

brake disc don't fit with new brake pads

I would not use anything but clean brake fluid on these parts.

brake disc don't fit with new brake pads

I also had this problem with both RD and XS iron calipers. I guess they are just prone to seizing pucks when they sit for a while. I was able to free them without removing pucks on both by splitting the halves and working them with a c clamp. I think with these it may be a good idea to change...

    Pre 76 brake noise fix

I noticed on my 76 iron caliper brake that with the shims in behind the pucks they drag and squeal. I tried reversing them and taking them out. With no shims the brakes work well, but the pads rattle around. Today I cut some little rubber bands out of 1/4" ID silicone tubing about 3/8" wide. Put...

The yellow and black is 60th anniversary scheme. It's a little more traditional than the FZ09, same engine. Posted via Mobile
