    PAMCO timing jumping around

Hello, I just upgrade my Ignition from points to PAMCO Ultimate High output #14-0914 (thanks http://www.xs650direct.com/ ), using the stock advace. Ive grounded the PACMO to the old coil bracket on bare metal, disconnected the condensors(left them floating), connected the remaining orange wires...

Let just start with… your right, you told me so I've buttoned up the carbs and was riding the past couple of days putting on a few 100 miles with no issue, just using the fuel shut off at the end of the ride... (accidentally stalled the bike.. coincidence ) and now issues. ... looks like you...

    BS38 carb overflow leak

I have done the q-tip and polish trick. Even put a litttle between the valve and seat and twisted to get a good seat. I have been careful not to mix the left and the right but im gonna put the orginal left valve and seat in the right carb. Maybe there is a barb inside the carb im not seeing...

    BS38 carb overflow leak

Idolated the carbs by blocking the interconnecting fuel line. Problem isolated the rising fuel to the right carb. After 15 minutes i had fuel coning out the overflow. So i guess i need to change both float levels to 25. Can't just do the one? I feel like this is not going to resolve my...

    BS38 carb overflow leak

So.. I must.. I got all the fuel out, confirmed dry, soldered leak and resoldered the ‘service hole’ in the middle/inside of the float. Submerged float in ISO alcohol for 2 days… still dry inside. Re-installed the float and below are the results. I’m using original valve and seat. Floats...

    BS38 carb overflow leak

Thanks for all the advise. Looks like I will be buying a float. Against advice though I'm going to try one of Mike's float. $40 from boat.net, I don't know if I can justify it. Picture attached with current fuel level with a damaged float and gas on. Left the fuel on over night and ended up...

    BS38 carb overflow leak

Wife is away so i get to play. Got some mothers aluminum polish and cleaned up the original float valves and seat. With bike on center stand with fuel off, and ran it till it quit. Took bowls off the bike. Notice about 1/4" of fuel in right bowl, 1/2" in left bowl. Did the bubble test as...

    BS38 carb overflow leak

Another carb question unfortunately. I recently bought carb kit (http://www.xs650direct.com/products-36.html) for my 74’ BS38 carbs Part #48-1919. Can someone please tell me if the ‘Float needle assy 2.5’ is correct for my carbs. As before my bike stinks of fuel, and I can see the odd time...

    74 BS38 fuel mixture screw

Update on my points arcing. Found the problem!! I guess when I pulled the tank off to better work on the carbs I knocked the condenser wire... with it practically disconnected. Cleaned the contacts on the wire and properly seated the connector and now no arcing at the points!!! So excited...

    74 BS38 fuel mixture screw

Hey 5twin, the other videos were from other trouble shooting last year.. when I was trying to diagnosis my sticky advance assembly (which also may have returned) http://www.xs650.com/threads/cam-rod-and-timing-points.45390/#post-465638 .. timing is still between the fire markers on both...

    74 BS38 fuel mixture screw

New gaskets, jets and float valve assembly. Before the pilot was #45 and now #42.5, main assumed #127.5 now #130. Think I found the source of the fuel smell with a bad drain plug washer in the bottom of the bowl. Air fuel mixture left at 0.75 turns (think I might just leave it here). As I...

    74 BS38 fuel mixture screw

Did the sniff test in the oil and it smells like normal 10W40.. no fuel. Dry floats (no fuel inside them) It is funny Griz you mention defective float valve. If I leave the bike in the garage overnight with the fuel on the entire garage stinks like fuel (no puddle on the floor or stains). If...

    74 BS38 fuel mixture screw

Probably a premature thread but just trying to find out if my fuel mixture screw should be soo closed (TX74’ BS38 carbs). It is maybe ¼ turn open on both Carbs, but really wants to be shut fully off when performing the “dead cylinder” method to obtain the best idle. I start off at 0.75 turns...

    1974 BS38 Carb enriching system

Hey 5twin, i finally got my orings for my needle jet. Good thing i got a bunch because I've already destroyed 3. I have no issues getting the oring on the needle jet, but what is the trick to installing into the carb body. I push it in and it just wants to hop out. Tried 'screwing' it but does...

    1974 BS38 Carb enriching system

5T, you have gave me a lot to read on and now I understand, thanks! Your carb kit listed above does not include any description of the needle or jet sizes. Is this the one for me? Also, this one is tricky to get shipped to Canada. Thoughts on this one...

    1974 BS38 Carb enriching system

Thank you for the advise. I was after carb kit mostly for the gasket. As you can see from my pic they look pretty dry. Also I half striped the pilot jet head when removing it. (not sure if my stripping it will affect its performance??). I'm a newbie here and thought if I matched the year I...
