    XS750 tank on a XS650?

Seems I read somewhere where someone had fitted a 750 tank on a 650 for extra fuel capacity. Anyone know what kind of fabricating had to be done to accomplish this? Other options for more capacity? Thanks in advance.

Can a bad rotor blow the main fuse?

A new one, supposedly. Another ebay item. I hadn't seen this thread update for quite a while as you can tell. We did go through the tests but I was really only in the background after I handed it off to the mechanic. Can't even tell you what the magnets looked like.

Can a bad rotor blow the main fuse?

Got it off ebay, not sure from who anymore. Had other issues after this post. I got two screws mixed up on the first one. Ran for a couple hundred miles before the long one trashed the rotor. (Dumb!) Got another one, found a good vintage bike mechanic. Ran for maybe 25 miles and it was like the...

Update to no spark, think it's the coil

Thanks! Just what I needed. Everything checks out but still no spark. I'm missing something simple. Can't quite believe it's the TCI. Suggestions?

Update to no spark, think it's the coil

This goes back to the thread I posted a couple of days ago. 81 Special II. Had one very similar to it back when they were new. Done a fair amount of wrenching over the years but most of the stuff on this bike is new to me. Didn't have to do much work on my 650 36 years ago. Thought at first I...

No spark - think it's the coil

Took things apart. Rotor and stator are actually OK, I think. Small amount of brass shavings inside cover looked bad but can't really see where they may have come from. Think I may be getting a small amount of engine oil from the drive sprocket/shaft. Maybe new seal time? Here are my ohm...

No spark - think it's the coil

Got a different multimeter and now the coil checks out at 2.9. Took the alternator cover off and found brass shavings inside. The rotor looks to be shelled and although I haven't taken things apart, the stator windings don't look so good either. That rotor doesn't have 400 miles on it yet...

No spark - think it's the coil

Put a different meter on the contacts. Checks out at 2.9. Got interrupted so still didn't get the rotor checked. Back of rotor/stator cover seemed dirtier than it should have been. More to follow.

No spark - think it's the coil

I wasn't aware that the meter would do that. I think I had good contact but I'll try again and check back. Thanks.

No spark - think it's the coil

You fellows helped me out a few weeks ago with a charging issue on my '81 XS650. I replaced the rotor and everything has been fine for the past few hundred miles. Took it out on about hundred mile run yesterday. All was fine until I got about two miles from home when it just died. No warning...

Can a bad rotor blow the main fuse?

New rotor installed, charging fine, no blown fuses, back in business as soon as the new chain and fuse block arrives. Thanks for all the help.

Can a bad rotor blow the main fuse?

Thanks guys. Confirms my suspicions. Blade fuse block is on the way. Think I'll go the rotor route first. Fred, the comment on different issues than in '81 made me smile.

Can a bad rotor blow the main fuse?

Working on my '81 Special II. Bought it a few weeks ago (had one like it when they were new) and the first few hundred miles all was fine. Lost the charging system recently and after going through the checks I found on this site, determined that the rotor is bad but before spending hundreds I...
