    Fuel System Winterizing.

This Winter has been so wet in Cardiff Wales that I found a few drops of water in the carb bowls. Also, the damp lead to all the cables being tight, especially the throttle, so spent some time forcing a 50/50 oil/petrol down them. It's still raining and we are at the end of March. Wish I had a...

    Neutral switch question

Positive Power goes to the Neutral Light. The Negative wire from the Neutral Light goes to the Neutral switch. When the bike is set in Neutral the switch is now ON and completes the circuit to ground so the Neutral Light goes on..

    Flasher Unit

My mental masturbation: Maybe connect the new flasher directly to one set of indicator lights using power direct from the battery: You will probably need 2 light bulbs to add sufficient load to the flasher unit. If it does not work then add a new temporary Earth wire direct to the battery...

277° rephase cost VS vibration reduction (2024)

I like that blue paint on the XS. What vibration is it you don't like? If it's just at the handlebars then weighting them can smooth that out a lot. If it's just the overall feel of the bike then try retarding the ignition a few degrees, or try higher octane fuel. Does your XS smooth out when...

My first foray into not just one but two 1975 RD350's

Just curious? My RD250B had solid copper head gaskets. I never replaced them just annealed them by heating to a dull red on the gas stove and they were good to go again. Are these copper gaskets still being used?

The Royal Enfields which are currently manufactured in India have good parts availability and the pricing is reasonable in the UK.

My first foray into not just one but two 1975 RD350's

For those wanting to see a leak down test - The symptoms of a leaking seal are discussed from 1:30 to 3:00. Following this is discussion as to where to get the required equipment. The actual testing starts at 8 minutes and is nicely explained.

My first foray into not just one but two 1975 RD350's

Very nice to the see the RDs. Brings back lots of memories. I had the 1975 RD250B and loved it to pieces, so smooth...:hump: Easy to tune and when correctly done would just zip clean to redline without any hesitation. My only gripe was all the smoke above 5000 rpm. My mate's Suzuki Titan 500...

TIG welding tips for dummies (me)

The title of this thread seems just fine for me... About 2 years ago I scrapped my MIG and bought one of those very cheap inverter power supply MMA/TIG combination welders for £75. I went for one with the Lift TIG option. Just recently I have been playing with the beast in Lift TIG mode. The...

    WTF pictures

I had always understood that hot dogs, sausages, burgers and Spam were made from "Lips and Arseholes". But having seen how these products are actually made I was very impressed with the high quality of the meat used in the good brands. Pork shoulder has a very nice flavor but the Super Markets...

Any suggestions for new bike build?

Did the replacement motor come with a VIN? Perhaps the shop that did the replacement re-stamped the engine to match the frame? Just curious.

    Homemade and Unique Tools

Will a Lambda probe work close to the exhaust outlet? I somehow have it in my head that they need a high temperature to operate, or is the built in heater sufficient? Can the electric heater on a Lambda probe be run continuously? Can a Voltmeter be used to read the A/F Ratio? Thank you for any...

As threatened, lots of pictures of filter build.

Nice work...:) Glad I stumbled over this thread as it is similar to something I have planned for VM38s if I cannot solve an annoying issue with Hitachi carbs.

Making a two ramp points cam for single points conversion.

Very interesting work, I like it Toglhot...:hump: I do not recall seeing it mentioned so I assume this conversion also involves swapping the ignition coils for a "Wasted Spark" type as per the XSs with electronic ignition. Note: I can imagine your new system being cheaply and easily modified...

    Wanted - TX650 Carbs

I've been searching the manuals at "thexscafedotcom" and I now see the XS used the constant velocity types. I was hoping someone would say such and such a Year used VM carbs. The TX pair selling on EbayUK look good but would work out expensive for you by the time they get to Canada. From what...

    Wanted - TX650 Carbs

While we are here, what Mikuni carburetors were fitted to the TX650? Were they 38s? Could they be used in place of VM38 for one of my random projects like an XT500? Thank you Guys. Note: Ebay UK has a couple of pairs listed.

    Brake piston

With seals removed, I found the use of kitchen pot cleaning steel wool and plenty of oil cleaned all the crap out of the seal grooves. The steel wool packs into the grooves nicely to give full contact with the surfaces. I did not push too hard and hoped the oil would minimize an abrasion by the...
