Barnett clutch disc & spring question

I switched to a Barnett clutch some 20 years ago and had the shop keep the original stock Yamaha springs. I have carpal and did not want to deal with the heavier pull. Seems to work but i am pretty easy on the throttle.

    Clutch pushrod question

I do not believe that steel or aluminum or a combination of both is going make a bit of difference. I used the same 1-piece 7075AL rod that TwoMany used with a Heiden hydraulic clutch and the expansion rate made no difference in clutch operation. The Heiden hydraulic clutch made a big difference...

    Barracuda sighting!

At 16 years old I had a 1967 Plymouth GTX with that same 440 motor. The car was quicker than a Hemi up to around 60 mph. I will never forget passing gear in that car. You would stomp down on the gas pedal and the Carter AFB would open up and the torqeflite would down shift and .. you could not...

1980 XS 650 Cam Seal Replacement

The left camshaft seal installed very quickly with o'ring, gasket and Liquid Gasket 1104. The right camshaft seal is a different story. There seems to be less surface area for the OEM seal to ride on! Read some reviews and decided to try the suggestion of leaving the gasket off and use only...

Oil leak from the oil filter on the RHS

I ordered and installed the oil filter/cooler kit from 650 Central. The one that uses the honda filter. The darn thing leaks like a sieve. Put the factory back on and it is dry as a bone. So, I do not know what is going on! Maybe doubling the gaskets would help?

How to troubleshoot the TCI ignition system

I agree! I was experiencing a 1980 special not running correctly under load. My problem was corrosion in the connector from the TCI to the main loom. Once that was taken care of the problem went away!

Upgrading rear shocks 1980 XS650 special stock exhaust

Here is some whacking and cutting. Final edge cut. Here is the bike with the shocks installed. The bike is much easier to get on the center stand. I do not know about the side stand! The bike really leans over on the side stand...

Upgrading rear shocks 1980 XS650 special stock exhaust

The progressive 12 series purchased from 650 Central are offset like 5twins shows and the shocks fit fine. However with the 16 inch Fat Special rear tire and the change in the geometry there is not enough clearance to fit in the tire. The tire is rubbing against the chain guard. Looks like I...

    XS650 BigFin KIt

Update: Got back the TCI unit from Carmo and it cost me $50 plus shipping to find out that the unit is good! Decided to clean the contacts on the TCI male connector. The dermal does a good job on the male connectors. Forgot to take an after picture. The female connector's are a lost cause...

    My 60th birthday present

Bob, Can't help notice that you were able to remove the clutch side cover without disturbing the same side exhaust. I am assuming that the same can be done with the Specials as well? Is the exhaust header the same on the later standards and specials? Anyway, great posting!

    Old trucks

I bought a 1951 Chevy 3100 from Dry Creek Union Elementary School. That was painted in school bus yellow with a crack along the entire block of the 216 motor. I poured in aluminum flux stop leak and removed the thermostat. Drove it for many years that way. The motor was splashed fed and had a...
