Cannot see around my arms though my mirrors

Back in the good old days we used mirrors that clamped around the handlebar, and we would mount them so the mirror was below the handgrips. It actually worked quite well, because your view behind was at waist level.

Ever get the itch for a "modern" bike?

My son just got a 650 V-Strom, to replace his modern Triumph Bonneville. He hated the uncomfortable rock hard Bonneville seat. The V-Strom is reliable, comfortable, and with the windshield, good for long trips. Me, I'm seriously looking at the 1000 V-Strom, just for the bigger bang. I still...

    first run. SHAKEDOWN!!!

Emz, If your brake light switch actuates from hydraulic pressure, you won't need the spring. That setup is so the switch won't over extend when the pedal travel increases as your brakes wear. Ken-N

    Decarbonizing head every 2,000 miles!!!!!!!!!

You could try an old aircraft trick and spray a light mist of water into the intakes with the engine hot and running at part throttle.

Epidemic of Ebay outlaw parts sellers - Fraud galore

As a gun owner, I refuse to use Ebay or Paypal, the owner (same person) is a flaming anti-gunner.

I have a totally separate question, since you put a new steering neck on your frame, where are your frame numbers now?

    Another XS in the garage

Geez, 1982 heritage, my absolutely favorite year! Somebody messed with the engine though, it should be black, with the edge of the fins ground bright. I wish I lived closer, I would try to talk you out of it :+)

    Tailgating cagers...what's the cure ?

Here in Taxachusetts, you have to ID yourself and provide CCW as soon as the officer approaches. Plus, there is no "open carry" here, if anyone sees any part of your firearm, you can be charged with "Brandishing" a weapon.

Are you staying with the Dunlop K-70 tires? They give it a very classic look.

I'm pumped, my bike is almost finished! '80 bobber 4" stretch "Wabi Sabi"

Two things, 1. Is it just an optical illusion, or is the front tire not centered between the forks? 2. Don't ride to Massachusetts, it's illegal here to have ammunition (empty cases are considered ammunition, even if they are damaged beyond use) unless you have a LTC, and Mass does not recognize...

    Mounting rear Master Cylinder questions

Emz, Would the caliper have fit between the rear frame rails instead of on top? It would make a much cleaner install that way. Nice looking scoot, bye the way :+)

    petcock rebuild

The XS650 has a prime position, Honda's SC650 has off/on/reserve with no prime

    petcock rebuild

Another problem with vacuum petcocks, my son has one on his Honda SC650, if you aren't lightning fast switching the valve when the tank runs dry, you run all 4 carbs dry. At that point there is not enough crank in the battery to tun the engine over for 5 minutes to fill the bowls again, and you...

1980 Bobber Build on Mr. Lucky's Frame

KVan, I remember trying to use the little snufflers like you have on a 350 Honda many moons ago. The poor beastie wouldn't rev over 5000 rpm with them in the pipes, they make a LOT of backpressure, and didn't quiet the exhaust down much, worst of both worlds, actually. I hope they quiet yours...
