    Forum decline

Some forums that were very busy 5 uears ago seem almost dead. Dotheton was always getting new posts and threads a few years ago, now some of the busiest threads go without reply for weeks to months. And it's not the only nearly dead forum that I used to frequent. Therangerstation, sohc4, and...

Sold / Found / Inactive - Breaker plate

Does anyone have a breaker plate they don't need? I'm wanting to try something for a rephase ignition that doesn't break the bank, but I don't have a points plate/breaker plate. I figured I'd ask before measuring up the housing to reverse engineer it.

    Sumotrack rebuild

So this bike has basically sat since it broke on the dyno. I ended up moving from WA to OK and lost motivation on it. I did pull and replace the top end with a Hoo's 700cc kit, but then found the throttle bodies locked up. While it sat neglected I worked on a few other bikes, including my...

    Sold the Tiger

So with my back I'm not doing any long rides anymore, and mostly commute to and from work. So I decided the 500lb tiger was getting up there in miles and something lighter would be nice. So I put the tiger up for sale and sold it for not much less than I payed 4 years and 20k miles ago. 2...

    YZ/XR200 build.

Haven't been on here in a while so I thought I would post one of my current dirt builds. It's a 2000 XR200R motor with an 8mm stroke, crf230f head, atc200x cylinder, crf230 primary gears, all stuffed into a 97 yz125 chassis. The trick to the 8mm stroke is to use a crf230 piston, it has a 4mm...

    YZ conversion

So last year I built a cr80 with an xr100 motor, it's a blast but a little on the small side for long trails. So starts a new build, 1998 yz125, with an xr200 motor. The motor is going to be a bit mix n match, xr200 bottom end with the crank stroked 8mm, atc200x cylinder for the big fins...

    CR120F?

So this all started because I have a 79 XL75, that I put a built xr100 motor in. 120 big bore, cam, ported, 24mm flat slide, tiny flywheel. It's a blast because it's so overpowered, but the suspension and ground clearance are terrible. Enter the $75 CR80R. Doing a little reading on forums...

That's not how a valve should look

Well doing the top end on a trx125 I picked up for the wife. Comes apart pretty well, get the new piston and cylinder on, and turn to the head. Well I have new valve seals so time to pull the valves and install them and clean everything. This came out of the exhaust side. Initially I pulled...

    4 wheeler for the wife.

Well a while back the wife said if I found a small 4 wheeler she would go offroading with me. Since my dirtbike is a 79 XL75 with an XR100 bottom end, 120 big bore and cammed she doesn't need anything fast. The suspension on the XL is its real limiting factor. Well sunday I picked up an 87...

I can't escape the British iron

Well about a year ago I got rid of the triumph spitfire I had. It wasn't stock, I put a toyota motor in it so it would actually start anytime I turned the key. And today I picked up a T120R Bonneville engine. Granted it only cost $75, now I have to figure out what to do with it.

    Oklahoma

Well I'm in OKC now, unfortunately until I find a job and a house I can't fix my XS. It's a fuel injected tracker style, had a wrist pin circlip fail on the dyno. So once I have space it's going 700cc big bore. Who else is in oklahoma?

    possible big move.

So with Boeing having issues and washington gerring more expensive by the day, the wife and I are looking at moving to Oklahoma. I'm from the OKC area, and we would be near my family. I actually have 2 interviews down there the second week of february. So how those go will decide how soon we...

    fancy cases

Not mine, and I'm not willing to make the 4hr round trip for it, but some fancy cases for sale. If you have a good but ugly motor this would be a shortcut to get cleaned up parts. https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/mpo/d/stanwood-xs650-mock-up-motor/7044116488.html

    shipping rant

Ok, I would say everyone on the west coast avoid the shipper Ontrac. Terrible, terrible service. In the last few months I've had 6 packages sent to me using them. 0 have been on time, 2 were delivered 1-2 days after tracking said delivered, 1 was a few days late, 2 were a week late, and the...

    Modern Maintenance

These new bikes sure need a lot of work just to expose the areas for maintenance. I'm doing the valves and plugs on the tiger and can understand why a dealer charges $700 or so. I'm using the money I save doing it myself to replace the cam chain, tensioner and sliders. I figure its got a...

    kawasaki W800

I remember a long time ago thinking the w650 was a good looking bike, but it was short lived here in the US. Well Kawasaki is bringing the W800 here now. A dealer near me has one on the floor and it is back on the website. Down side is that it has a mini fairing and clubmans stock, personally...

    clutch damper springs

Something I've been wondering, could you make solid pieces and get rid of the damper springs if you have a cush on the rear wheel? I know the springs can fail, and with going to a high ratio primary I have to pull it all off anyway.

    8 plate clutch

I did not pioneer this set up, Ippytattoo used to sell the Alto 2.5mm friction discs as a drop in 8 plate upgrade and Hugh and a few other did write ups on machining the basket. If you machined the basket with the 2.5mm discs you could probably do a 9 disc set up. But using where Ippytattoo...

    Cheating on mama yama

So I picked up the newest bike I've ever owned today, a 2013 triumph tiger 800xc. It's already got an arrow exhaust, hyperpro suspension and the full compliment of hard bags. Definitely a different feel, but it'll be nice for longer distance and 2 up riding.
