    No Roll!

I have a '73 and every few stops, when I down-shift to 1st, the bike won't roll backwards with the clutch fully disengaged. Sometimes it will roll a foot or so, sometimes it locks up immediately, but when it does, it's firm. And, it's not every time, it's sporadic. Any ideas?

    Pre-Spring Service Tips

Slowly thawing my '73 650 out of its winter hibernation for the first time, what's a good service punch list? Check, clean, lube, replace, etc.?

    Speedometer Weirdness. MPH?

My '73's speedometer seems to be off by at least 10 MPH (too high). Any advice on calibrating it correctly?

    Old bike, new leak

This is the belly of my '73 TX650. What was a little sweat has increased to a small drip. Seems to be coming from this seam. What is it and how hard is it to fix? Thanks, guys!

    MPG / Range

Understood that there are many factors, but what kind of average MPG or tank range should I be getting from my '73?

Best way to clean an engine

What are the best tools of the trade? I got some Gunk degreaser for the heavy nasty stuff on the underside, but what about the general sides and carb areas?

    Deconstructing the decompression lever

@cra-z1- Doesn't turn over at all- like it's not even hooked up. I was told the points were checked and cleaned before I got it. Are those hard to replace by a rookie? @gggGary- Great tip- I'll pull that apart and see what I see.

    Deconstructing the decompression lever

Still getting to know my '73 TX. This decompression/starter lever is curious. Even with new battery and a good charge, it's inconsistent. Sometimes I pull it and it starts like dream, sometimes I pull it and nothing happens, seems like it's not catching or something; no activity, no tension. And...

    Still leaking = user error?

Thanks for the POVs. I'm pretty sure I'm using the lever correctly seeing that the short end, the pointer end, can only point up (ON), so when I point it left (STOP), it should be off. I'm going to order 2 new ones and try to set them myself. @MaxPete- thanks for the tip on the Vessels. Can...

    Still leaking = user error?

Thanks again, Pete. Getting smarter everyday because of the 650 family. I'm going to order a couple of new petcocks from Mikes and be done with it. Questions on that procedure to come!

    Still leaking = user error?

Thanks, all. It takes a Village. UPDATE: The 2 leaks are not coming from the carbs, but are coming from the thicker tubes that dump near the high stand. See pic. Is that petcock related?

    Still leaking = user error?

I'm in my rookie year, so I can still ask dumb questions. I just had both petcocks rebuilt, but I'm still finding small puddles of fuel on my garage floor after sitting for a few hours after riding. It's not a lot, but it's enough to get my attention. Am I using the petcock settings wrong? See...

I love the smell of gasoline in the morning...

I'm relatively new to the sport and not super mechanical, so I need a little help understanding why my '73 leaks a little fuel after a ride. Petcocks off, but often when then bike sits overnight, I almost always notice gas on the garage floor. Seems to be a few drain lines- one from each petcock...

How do you use the decompression lever to start a '73 TX?

While I'm getting to know my new bike, does the red light on top of the headlight case indicate that the headlight is on or that I have a bulb out (which my low beam is out)?

How do you use the decompression lever to start a '73 TX?

Great advice, thank you all. The battery seems old, but did take a charge overnight. Still lacks the power to fire it up from cold, so I'll get a new battery and check the switches. Anyone know why the '73 got the 'TX' name?

How do you use the decompression lever to start a '73 TX?

Just got a beautiful '73 TX. Starts on the first kick, but I'd like to use the electric start as well. When I pull the decompression lever, the engine turns over, but never starts. Any ideas?
