The problem was the gasket. I spoke with a specialist working on XS for more than 30 years. He said all the usual cylinder base gaskets sold on the market like the Athena that I put in (twice!) never work. So he had made his own gaskets with a special material. I put in one of them, now it´s...
Yes, I checked that. I couldn´t see anything particular. There were tiny scratches, but very tiny, I imagine that´s why there is the paper gasket to put in. I also put a very thin layer of liquid sealant on the gasket. - changed the gasket because it was leaking on the left side. Now it´s...
Hello again
finally I changed the cylinder foot gasket (and head). Unfortunately it´s still sweating a bit on the foot, especially on the right side (before it was the left side leaking), leaving a tiny stream. Can that happen at the beginning? Will it go away? I think in general I did a good...
Finally I installed the valve, under the carburettors, plugged the second exit, and it seemed to work, but unfortunately after about 50km again oil leaking... I guess I´ll have to change the cylinder food gasket.
I know, thanks, but still no room there for the valve. Either I run a hose down and set the valve under the carburettor or I adjust the breather exit, cut the Y off and put a hose barb there
impossible to fix it with the 2-V-exit, no space, maybe underneath the carburettors, now trying to find the right hose, or transform the V into 1 exit...
Hi again
finally I got the ventilation valve, the cheaper one.
articxs: did you fix it only on that one borehole opposite the IN-tube? Where? There are two more holes next to the OUT-tube (see arrow), and I asked myself what for...
Thanks
I undid the bolts on the head for moving the bearings, so the torque is ok.
I searched for "power brake booster" and did some reading, but don´t understand how it could solve the leaking problem....
It worked on the right side, I could move the bearing, but not on the left side. I didn´t want to use too much force. In the end I put in a second paper gasket, now it seems to work. No oil leaking.
Still leaking a bit at the cylinder foot on the left side, I guess the gasket is not 100%...
Hello
two years ago I changed the cylinder head (XS650 1980) and probably didn´t place the camshaft 100% precisely. There´s always a bit oil coming out of the ignition housing and the centrifugal advance housing. I changed already the rubber seals and seal rings.
Question: Is it possible to...
That´s it! Now it´s working. How stupid. The celts warned againts delicate operations during the full moon period otherwise one could put in the point cam the wrong way...
Sorry for the waste of time!
Hello
I had to change the gaskets at the camshaft, ignition point side. When everything was back in place, when I wanted to adjust the ignition, the points didn´t open or close anymore, not moving, as if the ignition point cam had lost its hump. I took everything out again, checked it, back in...
