Interesting flat track bike. Seems overpriced to me but still pretty neat. https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1972-yamaha-xs650-flat-track/6679377136.html

    Front end Swap (guru needed)

Alright guys, I know these questions come up a lot but I've come across a complete (and straight) front end for a great price but I can't find too many details around it. The front end in question came off a 2008 Yamaha FZ6. It has right side up forks, wheel, brakes, fender, both trees, and...

Sump Plate Converted to Accept Spin On Filters

So I have come across a sump plate locally that has been modified to accept spin on filters, the owner states that it was made in Germany. I'm curious if anyone here is using one of these and if so what the overall opinions of them are? Thanks in advance!

    Oil level cold vs warm

I guess I thought that since they tell us to check it warm then your supposed to do it right after you shut it down. If you wait for it to settle isn't it the same thing as checking it cold?

    Oil level cold vs warm

Alright, probably a silly question but has anybody taken note of how their oil level reads when cold vs warm? I know the Yamaha recommendation is to warm the bike up and check with the bike level and the cap unscrewed. I check mine every time before starting it and have always figured if it...

What have you done to your XS today?

Changed my fork oil and springs. Also decided to pull my fork brace and paint it while I had the bike up on the jack. I actually liked the raw look but it was starting to rust so it got some black enamel paint after cleaning it up. Before and after:

Front end spring and oil swap

Thanks for all the help guys, everything is back together and the front end feels much better. 5twins, thanks for the info on the left side clamp, I was attempting to keep the gap the same front and rear, all fixed up now. Bike still isn't running quite right, took it on a 20 mile ride last...

Front end spring and oil swap

Just to clarify, the shoulder of the axle bolt snugs up against the speedo gear housing? I realized the shoulder keeps the wheel from moving side to side but the gap still looks off to me. I'm not missing anything, am I?

Front end spring and oil swap

Thanks Gary. That's what I started to do but it seemed like that would still leave play between the wheel and forks. Am I missing something?

Front end spring and oil swap

Also would appreciate a little input on front wheel/axle re-assembly. When I put everything back together I noticed some play between the wheel and the forks. Seemed like the logical way to put it back together was to tighten the clamp on the left side and then use the castle nut to snug...

Front end spring and oil swap

Put it back together with the original drain plug screws. Definitely feels better already but I may use the adjusters to stiffen it up even aabit more.

Front end spring and oil swap

I have a machine shop here at work that has almost every nut, bolt, screw, etc that you can imagine yet we don't have anything in M4x8. Everything is either M4x6 or M4x10. Think I would have any luck at Lowe's or Home Depot? Checked the Ace hardware and struck out.
