I changed out the starter gear on my '77 xs650. The bike starts but I'm thinking the RH Crank2 (#3061144203) might be too worn but would like to hear from someone with more experience. Pic shows the wear which was comparable on the starter gear.

Its been a while since the last post but someone told me I left you all hanging out there so here is the update. I was able to get a new mix screw in place without too much trouble. Twisting slowly at the start to find any existing threads was key. Had to back it out a couple times to start at...

Just an update to this thread. Had raised the floats to 25mm at that time (Jan 8th). Ran a test ride around the neighborhood. Still had some gas in the drains. Suppose that is from sloshing around? I'd estimate about 4 tablespoons.

I've replaced 98% of the wiring on this bike as it was toast. I'm leaning toward the front brake light switch as the mastercylinder had been leaking for who knows how long. And for $7, why not, let's make it 99% replaced. Thank you for you photo of the rear switch. That will help out a lot...

I think you nailed it 5twins. A co-worker of mine mentioned the same thing about the bowls. Just tried it out and, sure enough, you both are correct. (face buried in hand right now). I'll raise to 25mm (both bulbs) and reinstall to the bike. Thanks Everyone! -Adam

it does have tang that allows you to set the float height. I have that set at 24mm from the base to the top of the float as described in the manual. I havent mic'd them yet but I think the posts are worn compared to the other carb. I think this is allowing more travel away from the float...

I'm needing to replace the front brake light switch and am not seeing how that comes off the bike. Can anyone point me to an existing link? ('77 standard XS) Also, this bike does not have a rear brake light switch installed (or I'm not seeing it). Same question as above. Thanks Adam

Working on my 77 standard. Noticed fuel in the drain hoses. Looked at the heights and they checked out to 24mm. Thought about raising them. With the bowls off, I inverted the carbs. At this point I noticed that one float lowered so much that the float needle almosts comes out. Flipping...

I did try to re tap with the stock screw but only went half way. What a shame.

Thanks everyone. Regarding the mix screw threads. The stock screw are coarser but about the same diameter as the other screw. Am I needing another carb body or can I retap those threads? Any thoughts on that?

I figured it may have been the wrong screw. You'll see in the pics that the vaccuum screw is a substitute (althought easier to get to!). Let me know if you need more photos. Thanks!
