Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Ok with a few test runs under my belt I can summize that adding the long intakes and restricting the intakes slightly to promote constant pressure does have a positive impact, however, it is mostly felt in the midrange. There is a noticable smoothing of throttle transition from low to mid, and a...

    1980 SE Coil mount size

That's a great tip, thanks. Strange all the new parts sellers seem to be offerimg a coil spaced at 90mm, I have measured a few times now for my own sanity, and it's definitely 100 my bike.

    1980 SE Coil mount size

I wonder if anyone can help me, I measured my coil mount holes at 100mm centre to centre, yet when I try to look for a new coil they all seem to be 90mm, how is this possible?? I bought a cheap coil on the off chance it would fit and it is just over 90mm, so no. Was there any variance in the...

    BS34 alternative intake manifolds

Hi guys, Quick question, my carbs have vacuum ports so the vacuum ports on the intake manifolds are now redundant, is there an intake manifold with no vacuum port that will fit the BS34? Or am I just looking at solid aluminium intakes for the likes of CR carbs, the only reason I'm not so keen on...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Well, that all fits, need to get out for a ride now, but it snowed here last night... Definitely function over form here...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Parts arrived, will probably need some support, may make one from p-clips or use safety wire or something. Nice quality silicon, smooth inside and pleasantly thick. I don't think there's any danger of the XS collapsing them!

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

After scouring eBay, I found some 54mm to 51mm, 5 inch long straight reducer pipes, I have concluded that based theses silicon pipes I will end up with 17.5 cu in total of "airbox" (obviously this is far below the volume of the original EX500 box). These are the longest I could fit in without...

You can stick an SR500 top clamp on, prettier, and it's flat so it gives you suspension drop.

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Thanks, I'm 100kg (220lbs), so no racing snake... I do have foam pods filters, but I feel like these carbs would do better with a pipe to suck through, so I'm going to stick some silicon reducer tubes on between the carbs and the air filters. I read a post on the Kawasaki ex500 forum where he...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Well, tried out a few things, it's essentially smooth held at any throttle position; so apart from the sooty exhaust/plugs it seems ok. I think can detect the carb sliders fluttering, and I feel like it's holding back a bit, vague I know. I couldn't get it past 88 mph today, I recently put a...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Thanks Peanut, I had seen this done on two strokes, notching the grip and marking the housing at increments to get jetting right. I will try your suggestion on the way home from work tonight -- I have a feeling that apart from sounding "Woofly" (technical term), it pulls nice and evenly when...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Well, I haven't put the 142 mains in yet, I have some 140s sat about too now just in case. My reason is, and I don't know if any of you are great at reading spark plugs, but after a few hundred miles of riding (slow and highway), I noticed my exhaust mufflers are quite coated with soot, and my...

    Crankcase venting

I use the 2500cc quantity on the case, I have no oil blow by. I also use a 1 way valve (yes, it's the right way round!), to try and prevent positive crankcase pressure. Edit, one of these guys, if anyone is interested, 12mm ally, small enough to have inline...

Swingarm bush, bronze, steel? Who knows

Thanks all, I endevoured to remove them, as I had some bearing sat around waiting to go in anyway. It did not go well.. it turns out that they were original (if the original plastic is particulary fibrous?), I sawed through them a bit on opposite sides as suggested, but they appeared to have...

Swingarm bush, bronze, steel? Who knows

Thanks, I misunderstood. I actually don't think there is any play between the tube and the bushings, not physically noticable anyway. Maybe just clean it up, re-grease and tighten. I guess the play detected at the rear wheel was lateral, and the swingarm bolt was not tight enough, pumping more...

Swingarm bush, bronze, steel? Who knows

I had a slight suspision that it could also be some ultra hard plastic -- there is a faint concentric rings patters on the outher face, it isn't visible in the photos really, almost like its been turned. Not sure if the originals had that? When I put the axle and tube back in, it's all a good...

Hmm, I have some of these guys in the garage, expanding concrete bolts: Looks like I could do an approximation of your idea....

Swingarm bush, bronze, steel? Who knows

Thanks Gary, do you think your tool would manage a metal bushing? My only other thought was to crush it in a big vice....
