    Replacement for stock points coil

Yeah, I was looking for something above average for a replacement until I pull the trigger on a HHB ignition system. Thanks guys

    Replacement for stock points coil

There is an o-ring/ grommet in there. Trouble is the cap wont screw on tight. Right when it gets just about snug, it pops onto the next thread. I've had to duck tape (my new coils) since I installed them. Its getting to be a pain cause the vibration will eventually want to back the plug wire...

    Replacement for stock points coil

Anyone know of an coil upgrade I could use on a points bike? I bought a two new coils from Mikes about a year ago and the tower caps just wont screw on tight enough. Probably some cheap chinese garbage.. I looked through previous posts but the links seem to be outdated. 79' XS650 stock...

    High speed glazing?

gggary, if you mean cutting out at full throttle, no. This was just me riding it for a few weeks. And yes, i did lean the jet needle one step. Tried to get those 140 jets awhile back but pandemic had everything on back order. Ill try again.

    High speed glazing?

Ive recently done some mods on my ‘79. Uni pods, Mikes pipes, shorty muffs and some jetting: 137.5 mains and 30 pilots. The bike runs good and starts in 3 kicks or less consistently. I pulled the plugs after maybe 100 miles and noticed the white porcelain around the electrode is a orangish...

    Thermal image

If you mean like a temperature scale,I don’t think it does, although Ive used some other Flir cams that do.

    Thermal image

Thought I’d throw up some cool pics of the bike running with a thermal camera on it. I went out for about a 6 mile putt to warm it up. The bike was around 205 F on both sides. You can pick up one of these cameras fairly cheap like $280 i think (work paid for it):)

Finished and she runs and rides

Really clean. Tasty color to.. Is that a stock front rotor drilled or did you pull it from something else?

What have you done to your XS today?

Tekk, had to wait for a sunny(er) day for pics. I used a diagram I found right here in the tech section from Jayel and added in turn signals. The breaker and fuse box are inexpensive Amazon buys. I Coulda put everything on three circuits but it was just easier to wire in a forth. Less things to...

What have you done to your XS today?

Pandemic project... Rewired my 79. Got rid of all the excess dumb relays and light checker do dads. Wanted to go with a smaller headlight bucket but where the hell would you hide all the wiring?? So I kept the stock headlamp. Added some new smaller gauges and a whiskey throttle. Black Betty...

    Throttle Cable Length

I just put a Biltwell whiskey throttle on my scoot. Stock cables wouldnt work so I ordered this: https://www.venhillusa.com/products/cable-kits-and-parts/cable-kits.html About $50 shipped to your door. The contents of the kit I believe give you enough to make two cables, so you should be good...

    Compatible speedo/ tach cables???

Anyone know of similar bikes with the same hookups for a slighlty longer speedo and tach cables? I plan on running some new gauges and they seem kinda tight. Especially if I want to tilt them slightly. New vendors or used models, as long as they plug and play.

    Parts Quality

I bought a stock ignition coil recently from Mikes. The tower caps wouldnt stay tightened down. After about six back and forth emails about a replacement, they seemed pretty persistent to wear me down and I quit contacting them. Now I have duct tape holding my new plug wires to my new coil...

Pathetically Slow Flasher & LED Usage

I'd agree on the brightness. I have one of those old 32 Ford lamps as a tailight and put a LED red stop with the white running/ plate light and can tell you they are WAY brighter than stock bulbs. On the down side, I did have to replace the stop lamp after a few months tho so their durability is...

A question from the electrically challenged

Like GLJ said; voltage is pressure, think of the pressure in your water hose. Amps is current flow, like the amount of water coming out of it.

    BS38 Needle jet/ main nozzle O-ring

I'm trying to find a replacement o-ring to my needle jet. Apparently due to the pandemic or who knows why, Partzillla and Bike bandit are both on back order. Wondering if anyone has tried a regular hardware store o-ring? These things are super tiny and I'm not even sure what size would be...
