And yet another dumb carb question

Well, I finally got around to yanking the carbs. Put in new fuel lines and filter, gave the carbs a good cleaning and relocated the needle from slot number 2 (from the top as Jim suggested) to slot number 3 from the top. Took it for a 10 mile test ride today with low throttle to medium throttle...

And yet another dumb carb question

I'm going to yank the carbs and give them a good cleaning. Jim, when you say, Have you tried raising the needles one notch?, does that mean I should put the needle in the 1st notch from the top or the 3rd notch from the top. I'm pretty sure it's the 3rd from the top but I just want to make...

And yet another dumb carb question

Thanks for all the input fellas but I still think it's a carb issue and not ignition. I put a new Accel coil and wires on it a few years ago so those parts should still be good. Also has electronic ignition. Specs: I've cleaned and fiddled with these BS38's several times over the years but what...

And yet another dumb carb question

After wasting way to many of hours of my life fooling with this BS38 carb set and not being able to get it like it should be I'm ready to replace with new carbs. The carbs I have may just be too worn out to ever get right. Or I just don't have the skill to ever get them right. About the only...

And yet another dumb carb question

Mikes sell part number 48-5010 idle mixture screw without the spring. Does that mean that the spring is not needed? I ask because I have springs in both my carbs but the right carb with the spring will only engage 2 threads/turns before bottoming out where the left carb goes about 5...

For Sale - XS650, it has come to this.

I'm approaching 77 years old the docs say my over half a century of riding motor bikes is "aging out" Time to sell and let the new owners enjoy. I take care of all my bikes. All rebuilt, refurbished, ready to ride. Top end rebuild documented on this forum. All brake stuff new. Not a museum...

    Quality bungee cords

ROK straps. Much better than bungees. Available from Amazon, Revzilla, etc. Have used them on long trips and all the gear stays where it's supposed to.

    Mix Screw - gone

5twins, that is the exact same screw I got. It came in a plain, unmarked baggie but it is the same one. I've got the screws at 1.5 turns out and took it for a ride today. Some spitting out the carbs until fully warmed up, about 6 miles of normal riding. After that the bike ran very nicely...

    Mix Screw - gone

The supposedly OEM mix screw, o-ring and spring I ordered off e-bay finally came in. It is silver, not brass like the other one I have. The one that got lost was also brass. Are the brass ones aftermarket? There must be something wrong with the right side carby. The old brass screw and the new...

    Mix Screw - gone

79 BS38 carbs. The bike has been running great since the topend rebuild, about 500 miles worth. Has been sitting for about a week. Went out to start it and it started right up, running on one cylinder very good but barely anything on the other. OK, got out the flashlight and found there was no...

    Salt racer

I'm with Jim. Do both. Have some serious fun! Or, have fun seriously. I can not stop looking at that bike of yours. It's a beauty. Details. We need pics of both sides, and close up pics too. Does it have a fuel tank? Is the fuel in the frame tubes and electrically pumped out to the carbs?

1982 XS650 Heritage Special - Decel popping on one cylinder

fenbrancis, Just curious if you ever got this issue fixed and what the cause was. Mine does the same thing on the right carb. New top end, everything mentioned in this thread checked. My drive way goes downhill so I roll in first gear and it sounds like the gunfight at the OK corral. I'm at...

Engine change-Now Serial Number does not match

This is a most interesting thread because mine is a 79 with what seems to be an 81 motor. One of the gurus on this site pointed out that 79's did not have an oil sight glass. I had no idea. So I got under it and checked. And sure enough, the frame numbers and the motor numbers do not match. It...

    Can you ID this frame?

What I like about it is that you can set up a single Mikuni carb in the center, just like on a Norton Commando I had. Wish someone would make a conversion on our XS frames to do that instead of having a carb sticking out the side.

That is a seriously cool workshop. The dirt digger shovel, wire rake, real mop, dirt grinder, dirt broom and a V8 looking for a home. The bike is Bad Azz. What does that exhaust pipe do? Is there one on the other side, maybe to keep things warm. Lots to like about that XS650.

Found a dual petcock tank that is in perfect condition. My current set up is single. Whats the best way to go about being able to use this tank?

If your tank came with both petcocks you can modify one like I did. Mine had two, the one in the pic was leaking, but now has one. It has been leak free for over 2 years now. Hack saw the flange off, fill it with JB weld, put the rubber O ring on and bolt it in.

    Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to introduce one of the worst handling, most overweight, under-powered production motorcycles in it's full awsomeness. The amazing Amazonas!
