    Valve Seat Cutters

I think so (don't take that to the bank tho) at thexscafedotcom.wordpress.com I found a manual for the xs1,xs2, tx650 that shows the cutters for the valves. There is a 45' 40mm cutter for intake,45' 34mm cutter for exhaust,65' 42mm cutter for intake and exhaust plus a seperate cutter for radius...

    Valve Seat Cutters

Neway cutters work nicely. The kits can have a breathtaking price but you could just get the cutting heads you need for your bike and it's not too bad. cylinderheadsupply.com is who I've bought from, very nice people and happen to be very close to me now, but not when I first used them.

An Adventure in Firsts: '83 XS650 Heritage Special Build/Rebuild

As I remember, Barnett will custom make cables. At a shop I once worked at had a customer with a mid 60's Harley XLH. The tach drive came off the top of the points housing and the tach was a Smith's. Called Barnett, sent a sample , and got two cables (one for a spare) and the cost wasn't that bad.

Best Multimeter for working on bike

I still use a Simpson 270, great meter and sometimes better than a Fluke. I also have a couple Flukes and also a test light which can be invaluable.

    Other Bikes and Workshop Woes

Hi there, I have two suggestions, first search around for Kroil penetrating oil. Not easy to find and not cheap it's the best I have ever used.Second, ATF and acetone mixed 50/50. I have a friend who's a tractor buff who swears by it. Said he's used it to unstick seized motors on tractors that...

LOCKDOWN REBUILDS XS 1 TX AND SPECIAL

I agree with using the bushings on the swingarm. Harley sporsters used timken bearings in the swingarm and I've pulled the shocks off and had the swingarm stay right where it was due to the flat spots in the race.

    Can anyone ID this?

2nd gear on the 750's was a weak spot. I've never had a problem with mine, but I don't romp on it in 2nd. It was fixed on the 850 trans, which is a drop in replacement for the 750 trans.Keep an eye on the oil level. They have a tendency to blow oil out the crankcase vent. If you fall to low on...

    1981 Yamaha XS650S - Project Bike #5

If you can find 1/8 Left hand drill bits, a lot of times when you start to drill it will grab the plug and spin it right out. My two cents. Hope it works out for you.

Truth! I made several trips from E.Rutherford To St.Pete Fl on my '51 panhead. I felt I was doing good if I could maintain 50MPH average.

    Free a seized motor

Try a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone. Friend of mine uses it to free up stuck tractor motors swears it's the best.

    Standard Rear Rack pics

That sure looks like an OEM rack,I have OEM racks on my RD400 and XS750 That look identical. The earlier production had teak strips on the rails where the parcel was lashed down to, also backrests are interchangeable. They are a bitch to find though.
