Digging that pipe routing, whole bike looks incredible man!

    Weld-On Softail Plans

Maybe some stretch in the swingarm with shocks mounted further up from the factory mount on the bottom would give better geo, with shorter shocks running at a less aggressive angle. The extra clearance from your *ss probably wouldn’t hurt either, but Im just speculating

    Mailmans , 77D getting a makeover

Alright Bob! On to the next one! My next project is almost definitely going to be white and gold. Always thought it would look good, and seeing your 77 confirms it. All bikes deserve the treatment you provide

    Mailman On the Road Again

I tried to like your first post twice. fantastic work Bob! You sure you didn’t just buy that thing in 71 and store in a hermetically sealed box until now?

What have you done to your XS today?

Installed my shiny new clutch basket hardware, cleaned up mating surfaces and reinstalled left side cover, and installed new clutch cable. Refilled with some 20w 50 conventional from Walmart and took her for a wet and muddy romp around the back yard in the rain. Wiped her down and shit the...

    Let's See The XS's

Thanks man, but I wouldn’t sell this thing to my worst enemy! It is a fun little cruiser though. Apparently the kits are readily available for around 100 and change, then all you need is a suitable bike and a weekend. It was a fun little project

    Let's See The XS's

Not an XS, but the other day I finally got around to finishing up the “Rat Bike” death trap that was pawned off on me several years ago. A coworker bought the “moped kit” for his son but was so concerned about the terrible build quality and sketchy engineering that after letting it collect dust...

    Let's See The XS's

I think it looks badass. And no kidding! Been here almost 2 years and still haven’t made it up there, I’ll see if I can convince the old lady to come look at old stuff with me. Thanks for the heads up

Newbie needs help wiring left hand control!

Multimeter is a must for sure but good to hear you solved that puzzle. You running factory lights? All 4 hooked up? The relay only works under a certain load, so if there’s not enough draw it’ll blink really slow or potentially not at all. If after testing you establish the relay is fried...

    Greasy’s gone fishin’

The fish that come up out of the lakes to spawn here dwarf even the larger local stream trout, but we still manage a few ~20 inch stream fish every year! The waterways and weather we have here is just really conducive to good trout fishing this was yesterday’s big girl of the afternoon

Newbie needs help wiring left hand control!

That sounds right, but I’d still go through with a multimeter and confirm that each switch and wire correspond. But that’s because im also very ignorant to electrical shit so I double check everything. Main power from battery is red wire with inline fuse, to fuse box, then to ignition I think...

    Greasy’s gone fishin’

The lake run rainbow trout run is over, but the local brown trout creek is heating up. Fooled acouple of pretty fish over the last couple of days. I’ll be back on the bike tomorrow when the rain comes knocking!

Newbie needs help wiring left hand control!

DB90 welcome! The tech section is an invaluable resource, with pages of colorized wiring diagrams that are way easier to read http://www.xs650.com/threads/some-wiring-diagrams.61/ Here’s the 80 If you don’t have a multimeter on hand, get one and use it to confirm wire color/function on your...

Ooo-ooo that smell! Can't ya smell that smell?

I think that was a personal defense screwdriver. I woulda hired him for security detail if I didn’t need that space for my air filter

Ooo-ooo that smell! Can't ya smell that smell?

He did eventually get evicted, but not after going for acouple of rips around the backyard trails. Does is still count as riding 2-up if it’s a stowaway?

Ooo-ooo that smell! Can't ya smell that smell?

This was what I found the first time I pulled the airbox cover on my Honda crf230l barn bike. FYI, foam filters are a thing of the past. Real race spec bikes are running whole live animals

    Vacuum to petcock

Exactly! At least you can maintain the value of the carbs that way. I’ve had to do it before on non-bike applications, and actually did the same on my stripped out handlebar controls hardware. Good luck man

    Switch wiring

My build thread might be worth a look over, specifically starting around page 9. I rewired everything from scratch, and since there was no factory harness left when I started I had to test everything in the controls dept with a multimeter to determine function to each component. It’s time...
