So I retorqued the head as I previously mentioned... I put the top motor mounts back on and fired it up, rechecked my timing and somehow managed to get it right without needing any adjustment. I flogged the livin' piss out of it up and down my street to heat the motor up and give it a good...

Thanks for the sense of hope! I'm thinking I just need to start from a level head and go over each and every piece of hardware on this puppy And be sure the past me didn't let the beer make too many decisions... I can say for a fact there was lots of beer involved in a good bit of the process...

I sat a box fan next to her and sped up the cool down process. I wouldn't have slept tonight if I hadn't done the re-torquing. There were definitely some bolts that weren't as tight as they needed to be. Here's to hoping I got some more squish outta the gasket and it's sealed back up... Going...

I know the answer to this... I'm just pissed, and impatient. I'm gonna wait til tomorrow night to retorqued the head. Gonna set the wrench to 15, then 20 then 27ft lb for final torque. I hope this fixes the darn leak. I'll be pretty upset if I gotta rip this engine out to replace a head gasket...

I'm definitely gonna give it a whirl. I assume it's probably best to let it cool all the way down?

my exhaust temps are considerably closer than they were... It isn't running as erratically either. Maybe the warmer weather plays a part in it... I was looking at things and discovered a leaking head gasket. That's enough to really get me discouraged... However... I'm thinking I can try...

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

I thought the same thing. No marring on the screws, and very little side to side play on the butterfly shaft. I'm going with them never being removed. Which means it's probably a good idea to replace the seals on the ends of the shafts. If I get it running good and get a decent plug reading on...

Picture one is left carb. Picture two is right carb. If that isn't close enough I'm not sure It'll ever be. Lol

I got em dialed in as close as my eyes can get em.when I open them the smallest amount using just the throttle plate I see an equal amount of the port holes showing on the top of the venturis. They weren't off by a shit load but I guess anything is possible. Gonna run it again tomorrow and see...

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

I have em pretty close but thats my next tool to invest in... A good set of sync gauges. I work on enough old shit to need them. I synced them mechanically by holding the butterfly's wide open and measuring the distance from the edge of the venturi to the edge of the center of the butterfly. I'm...

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

I just took it around the block again... It's got way more power... Pipes are still very different in temp. 146° C on right header directly after cylinder head 93° C on left header in the same spot. These measurements are according to my AMES multimeter thermocouple attachment... Still...

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

I rechecked the left cylinder timing, and it's still just about right. So now both cylinders are timed with engine running and fall within the marks. The left pipe still is significantly slower to heat up than the right one. I'm still gonna say there's an ignition issue with that cylinder...

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

SHEESH. what a difference that made in starting... I swapped to the right side and it was WAY too advanced. Already made my adjustment to get her right in the middle of those two lil marks... That was a huge step in the right direction. Now I'm gonna recheck my left side timing and see how off...

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

And if the timing differs drastically then what do I do? With only one plate to adjust I assume my only way of timing adjustment would be to recheck my points gap for each and adjust accordingly? The coils and wires are the ones that came with the bike... I'm going to replace them for good...

    Timing advance question

My throttle responds instantly. It doesn't seem to hang much either... Maybe a tad. I'm chasing an intermittent left cyl. Spark. I cut my wires a little shorter and I'm getting ready to try again.

    Yam_Tech314's official build thread

Got me a new tool today! A timing light... My issue must have been more with air/fuel because my timing is pretty close to where it needs to be. Advances properly under throttle too. I'm sure it could all do some fine tuning but it went down the road just fine! My right cylinder exhaust header...

    Timing advance question

I can say this though, I turned the screws out to a full 3 turns out and it didn't backfire a single bit. My timing is pretty close too. Gonna make a post on my build thread with a video showing where it's at.

    Timing advance question

To be honest, I just set them to be level with the mating surface of the bowls.

    Timing advance question

I'm just taking blind guesses without a light... It backfired out of the carbs before. I made an adjustment and now it backfired out of the exhaust. I'm investing in a light that displays rpm and a few other cool things here soon... but I really just wanna figure out my fuel mixture and I gotta...

    Timing advance question

I have no timing strobe light yet and I'm impatient... If I wanna turn my points plate just a smidge to retsrd my timing and try to avoid kickback and backfiring, which way would I turn it? I assume clockwise advances timing..? The engine camshaft rotated towards the front (counterclockwise from...
