Thunder Bay to BC (Canada) and back 75XS

Well try to finish this up for this year. I left Penticton and headed south going through Princeton and over a pass into Hope and the Fraser valley. Bike ran good although it does have a bit of a stumble under load and around 3500RPM. The only thing I'm really worried about is the timing chain...

So I got a ride to my parents house and got the 79 parts bike engine out. It looks rough. Oil seep at the head gasket and top of the valves are wet. I’m headed back to where my bike is and my valve hasn’t shipped yet. I will probably throw this engine in and try it out while I wait for the...

As far as gearing goes I would go with 17-33 for most things on a 19” wheel as has been stated by many experts on here I think maybe 17-32 is good on a smaller 16” wheel maybe? There are threads. I don’t regret running 32 but it is high and hard on the clutch in town. On the highway it was a new...

    Fibre in oil

Update, so I changed the oil after another 100 miles and only had a tiny bit of fibre and no metal. I think it must have been a piece of blue shop towel... Idiot! So off I go this week on a cross Canada trip! Thanks for the suggestions and talking me down from pulling the motor!

    Fibre in oil

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m over my initial horror. I am going to run it this weekend and drop the oil again. It definitely looks like paper fibres and sludge though. The sump filter I repaired when I had the engine torn down so yes small fibers got through To the upper screen. I’m...

    Fibre in oil

Just checked the clutch fibers and they are within spec. I Tightened up the starter spring while I was in there as well. What would solvent do? I may have flushed some diesel through the crankcase at some point. It’s back together and I’m going to ride it a bit and check again. Hopefully...

Thank you for your response 5twins. I will find out for sure which style the parts bike has soon, hopefully the later version.
