TIG welding tips for dummies (me)

Good call, Jim. It is just a cheap Yeswelder 205P. It is DC only (I don't currently have any need to weld aluminum). Here is a LINK Currently setup on 110V, pure argon, 3/32 tungsten and 1/16 ER70S2 filler.

TIG welding tips for dummies (me)

Hey gang. My fiancée knocked it out of the park this year and bought me a TIG welder for Christmas. I have "some" experience with TIG, but realistically I am starting from scratch. So, I'm wondering if anyone has a "tried and trusted" resource for TIG settings, tips, tricks etc. My machine is...

Disc Brake Mid Controls - flogging a dead horse?

Wow, I think I totally missed Dave's reply 2 years ago. Of note, I made my own setup using monster garage pegs, a hugh's brake pivot and a random MC. It looks like Jumpstreet kits are available again on Jay's website, www.xsmids.com They aren't cheap, but they look pretty amazing. I would...

    Royal Enfield 350 Classic

A good friend has two of these, in the military green kit, one for him and one for his wife. Great little run-around bikes, but they've since moved out to the country and they never get ridden. We have been chatting about what they're worth to him, but I really do not need another bike and he...

    Front Brake

This may or may not help you, but when bleeding the brake MC on his MX bike, my buddy swears by using his Theragun (you know, those massage guns that help with sore muscles?) The high-frequency of the vibration helps knock loose all the trapped bubbles, and it works super well. I suppose any...

Sold / Found / Inactive - Complete TCI system off '81 w/ new TC harness

I found a HHB system online for a great price, so decided to pull the trigger. As such, the complete system off my 81 is up for grabs. includes stator, rotor, coil, all stock wiring and a brand new TC Bros "chopper wiring kit". No idea what the parts are worth, but the harness was $40USD, so...

    Kickstand question for kick-start guys

I figured I'd post this as a separate thread, rather than in my build, as others may find it helpful. I am wondering what kickstand people are using for kick-start applications, most notably (but not exclusively) on a hard-tailed frame. The TC Bros unit looks good, but it says right on the site...

    Which helmet do you wear?

I have a HJC V-31 open face with the built-in shield. It looks massive on my head, and while comfortable and DOT approved, I wouldn't buy again simply because I look ridiculous (imagine a human microphone)

    1st Post! Chopper Tank Install

@jpdevol yup those are the ones. I will admit I didn't even look at the size when I grabbed the link!

    1st Post! Chopper Tank Install

Not sure how you plan to mount it, but for mine I bought the threaded top hat inserts from Lowbrow. Drill the holes where you need them and weld them into place. Very straightforward, just be sure to thread a bolt into it before welding to keep it round (and also prevent any welding splatter...

81 XS650 hard tail build thread

Well, still no updates that require mentioning, however... TC Bros has a sweet sale at the moment, which ends tomorrow. I snagged a 21" spool wheel and some assorted little bits I needed, and they were all nicely discounted. Better still, they shipped it all to Canada in 3 days, and I didnt get...

Wanted - Looking for custom wheel spacers

Not sure if this is better in here, or in the lathe thread, but figured I would start here. I'm putting Harley wheels on my '81 chop, and I'm going to need some custom spacers made. I'll probably need 3 per wheel, in 17 and 20MM ID. Lengths are TBD, based on proper spacing, but wondering if...

81 XS650 hard tail build thread

More of a heads up than an update... I just received my Mr. Lucky's 32T Harley rear sprocket in the mail, allowing me to run a HD spoked rear wheel and keep everything in line for gear ratios. When I initially ordered it they were on backorder, but Ed emailed me back right away and let me...

1983 XS650 New Owner and That Famous Whirring Sound

Not to thread hijack, but I have some experience with the stuff. I did my Buell cafe tank with it and have mixed reviews. I had the tank professionally cleaned after fabrication, and followed the instructions to the letter. The first application completely failed, so I reached out to the...

    Disconnecting fuse stalls engine

Just a thought (I am by no means smart when it comes to electrical), the shorai lithium I put into my cafe bike required a modern reg/rec (mosfet?) as the OEM equipment apparently does not play nicely. Could this be a factor?
