New home for an old bike

Yeah it’s not of a shame really that it’s in this condition. I’m sure it was a nice bike once upon a time. I will be sure to document any other horrors I come across and the slow progress of the rebuild I’ll have to make sure to take those burrs off and smooth it off

New home for an old bike

Yeah you’re not wrong. Is this caused by an extreme amount of slack in the cam chain or another issue? I’ve just purchased one so it will have to be a bit of wait and see and hopefully it works out. Thanks for the help mate

New home for an old bike

The question is what to do next. If there isn’t any of the early model parts avaible do I buy one of the later ones and try and transplant the rubber guides? Or is that just crazy talk?

Thanks for that and thanks for the link. After reading I fear I might have the same problem if I get one of the slipper blocks off eBay. I too have the early design with the extra lip on top.

Yeah all the plastic strips were either falling apart or were coming away. Twomany I had a look around but couldn’t find anything to replace the bottom slipper block. Could you give me a nudge in the right direction? Thanks mate

Skull the check didn’t include if it had been written off. I’ll pay for one online and see what comes up. So I’ve got an update on the engine and that mysterious hole in the lower casing. I pulled the engine the other day and took off the top end. The amount of sealant and mismatched bolts were...

New home for an old bike

Hot dog you were correct about the side cart. The guy I bought the bike off also had that sitting in his shed. It was rougher than the bike if that’s possible. Twomany thanks for the detailed pics. On closure inspection it looks like you guys are right. On the right hand side of the hole there a...

New home for an old bike

Ah ok that’s a good plan of attack. Suprisingly it didn’t come with any air boxes so will the uni foam air filters be the best bet for now? I’ll post a couple of photos but it doesn’t seem like there any connecting/support bars on the carbs. Yeah you’re not wrong. There isn’t much floating...

New home for an old bike

Great stuff. Thanks for the info guys. So my next question is what to do next? It does run but I haven’t ridden it. Do I get to a point where I can ride it and then tear it down and start again or just cut out the middle man and take it apart and look for a new head and rocker cover? This is...

New home for an old bike

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate the time. Skull it looks like you were right on many things. I had a look in the tank and I could see the fixing points for the badge that has been bogged over. I had a look online and the speedo set up looks like it’s off a TX-500. The carbs look like 78-79...

New home for an old bike

Hey guys today I purchased what appears to be a XS-1B. It’s pretty rough and has had some questionable modifications to it. She does run but I haven’t ridden it yet and I don’t imagine I will for some time. The problems so far are the electrics, the head light and front indicators don’t work...
