Valve clearance became excessive out of nowhere.

Man, its been a while since I have been on here! It was a stuck valve, however I have yet to open it back up to see if it was bent or what not… I got busy with life and working and all that, but I think I will plan another rebuild when it warms up and try to do it right this time. I’ll have new...

I’ll take a look at it soon and report back if I find anything.

I will give this a try. Anything that’s easy and free is always worth a try.

Valve clearance became excessive out of nowhere.

Yep... looks like I might be doing some more work. My engine was running a little bit on the rich side but I don’t think it would have developed enough carbon buildup in such a short time to cause this. I definitely cleaned up my valves when I had them out.

Valve clearance became excessive out of nowhere.

you are probably right because my intake clearance was still fine I will investigate and see if it’s something I can fix.... What would cause a stuck valve? Are there methods I can do without taking the engine back down?

Valve clearance became excessive out of nowhere.

Update: I just reset the left side clearances properly and get zero compression on my left side. Where could I be losing my compression? my right side is at 120...

Valve clearance became excessive out of nowhere.

So my valve clearance became extremely excessive all of a sudden. The weird part is my bike ran fine before. I had taken it on its maiden voyage since my second time in the engine earlier this spring (~70-100 miles) and one thing I noticed was that the cam chain appeared to have gotten a bit on...

Oil delivery banjo bolts wont thread.

I ended up getting some used ones on ebay because I had already made my lowball offer before I knew about those new OEM bolts. I’ll try these cheap ones off a parts bike first. They will either work or we will know that something more serious is up. Now just to wait for the UPS man.

Oil delivery banjo bolts wont thread.

So I looked at the bolts more closely... my original looks like its mildly deformed, but threads into both holes with just my fingers. I notice some variations though between the new and old bolts. The diameter at the base seems too large and I cant fit the copper washers over them. also the tip...

Oil delivery banjo bolts wont thread.

The threads seemed to match up when I layed the new ones into the old ones. This seems to be a matter of diameter. My old crush washers wont fit on the new ones either. I will look into making sure that the threads are clean enough too, but as of right now I think it’s just the banjo bolts I got...

Oil delivery banjo bolts wont thread.

I ordered some banjo bolts from mikes because one of my originals sheared. The ones they sent me just start to thread but come to a brick wall and don't want to thread past about a mm in and I am not about to ruin threads. My copper washers also seem a smidge too small to fit against the base...

Is Supertech 20w50 conventional motor oil ok?

Cool! thanks, I’ll give it go and see if I like it any better than the rotella. I notice a small clatter with the 15w40 as well but nothing I was too worried about. I’ll listen for differences

Is Supertech 20w50 conventional motor oil ok?

My walmart is out of the usual brand of 15w40 I use. I usually use Rotella t4 15w40. I dont want to open any cans of worms but I couldn't find a definitive answer about this brand searching the forum.

    Cam Chain Guide Mod

Just posting here to document that I have done the mod and am installing it now for a second time. I do have to note (from experience) to make sure you shave off enough of the spine to get the locknuts to fully thread and lock. I noticed from pictures after my first install that mine were not as...

Lock nut question. Cam chain guide mod

Finally got around to doing it. Shaved it down some more and got it fully through. Used red loctite as well. I think these will be good. I just got to eyeball it in place and clean up the gasket surfaces and button it back up.... again... hopefully the last time.

Lock nut question. Cam chain guide mod

I have a small handful of nuts ordered and plan on trying to leave the jugs in place to work on it. Are New old stock head gaskets any good? I see some for cheap on ebay, but am not sure about them being reliable. Anyone have an opinion on nos head gaskets?

Lock nut question. Cam chain guide mod

Me as well. I just see the cam chain locking up on me if one of those screws fell out. I hope that by running it I didn't mess up my chances of preserving the base gasket.

Lock nut question. Cam chain guide mod

I actually did button it up and run it before I noticed this... not much but at least put like 20 miles on it. Could I just do as jim says and try to get in there leaving the jugs in place while eyeballing it. Even if I need a new head gasket i think I saw some on ebay for ~$15 on their own.
