    Re-thinking my rear brake.

Rain coming so I thought I would explore my rear brake again. The CB750 is 509 lbs dry. It has a real good rear brake, for not being hydraulic. I'm sure I could lock the rear wheel easily. The XS, it really sux. There is not that much difference between the brakes on both bikes that I can tell...

Yeah, I know, it's tough, but somebody has to do it. First, I got a little camera but I won't get into that now cause I haven't...

As a reminder, 77 XS with stock point Igy. 1300 miles since build. I built up the bike using the points that were in the bike. They could have been the original set for all I know. They looked good so I used them. I saved the new set from Mike's for later. I'm still having the engine die at...

    Broken Cushion Spring/s ?

What does it sound like at idle, when you have a broken cushion spring/s? The sound from my clutch area sounds like a tappet loose but a bit more tinny. I went thru the clutch on build up. Bike has 919 miles since build up. It has less than 15K miles since new.

longevity reports, Spray Max 2K ?

How is the Clear High Gloss Spray Max 2K holding up on aluminum fork legs and side cases? Anyone used it on bare, clean aluminum? I didn't spray the cases on the Yama but I'm thinking about it for the Honda. Also, if anyone is interested, I used vinegar to get rid of the rust between the fins...

Clear coat, Jim, got your ears on?

I've read over MANY threads on "Clear Coat". Specifically has not answered my question. I sprayed a base coat of JE #1 Acrylic Enamel. The JE #1 was not designed to be over coated but the color in this brand was a dang near match to factory so... I'm at the point of applying my decals and then...

Buckhorn gang - Upper brake line length?

I know. But I found a pair of stock buckhorn bars with the Yamaha sticker still on them. Looks like they set about an inch higher than mine. But the bar positioning will be different and the gentle roll. My upper line is about 17.5 inches and it JUST fits. I was just wondering what line length...

    Mis-Matched head and valve covers?

Anyone ever used a mismatched valve cover with another serial number head? I have a good valve cover and good head but they are not matched. Fit is good as far as I can determine. Hate to throw good spares away because they might come in handy, in the future, in a tight. Thu

Well eat me fer a tater! I ran the bike for about 4 miles at 65 to 70 mph because of traffic and having to keep up. Got out of that situation and brought it home. Got to checking it over and I see the case gasket has expanded all around the bottom of the cylinder like loose head bolts and nuts...

    Refinishing rocker arm faces

It seems that over time, the rocker arms develop a shallow groove in the center of their contact surface, right where the cam lobe break over the top. Anyone refinish these if they are not too bad? If so, do you just stone them. I haven't seen this mentioned. Thanks, Thu

Crash bars will fit a 76 but not a 77?

What is so different about a 76 XS650 front frame/ engine placement, than that of a 77, that would prevent the swapping of crash bars? The front lower motor is different? Pipes roll down differently? NM: I bought the 76's anyway and I'll make them fit. Thu
