For Sale - Geniune Brat Style Japan custom seat

I had bought this seat from Japan. It’s made to fit xs650 non-hindged seat models. It will require some modifications to mount but if you are heading down that custom brat or cafe route, this is the seat to get. They stopped making them a few years back. It’s in very good used shape. I had...

    XS Special Side Emblem Comparo

I've seen discussions about the side emblems from Mikes XS. I couldn't find a thread with a compare of the two. So, here's a side by side photo of a NOS right side emblem (2M0-21782-00-00) and one from Mikes XS. Just to be clear, the Mikes XS comes as a 2-set (pair) and they are left or right...

What have you done to your XS today?

Metal Rescued my tank and cleaned the carbs, changed the lines, and inline fuel filter. While I did this I installed a Motion Pro throttle cable. Wow, I'm sure glad I did as the throttle response and smoothness is great. I didn't know how to oil the cable so I used a tiny drinking straw and...

Metal Rescue Tank. Should I Swap to Manual Petcock?

All hooked up again. I didn't do anything to the petcock (kept the vacuum type). No leaks and working as it should. Here's a before after in case you are curious.

Metal Rescue Tank. Should I Swap to Manual Petcock?

I have a 1980 XS650 Special. I'm in the process of cleaning out the tank with Metal Rescue (concentrate). Used three bottles for 3 gallons. It's sitting in the tank now. I'll also take apart and clean the carbs (it was recently fully rebuilt) and add new fuel line plus inline fuel filter. I...

    Oil Change and Sump Filter

Good to know I'm not the only one. I got worried thinking it might pop on its own or something.

    Oil Change and Sump Filter

Old thread new question. If I used just a ratchet and not a torque wrench, should I go back in and back out the bolt and re-torque to said 80 in/lbs (not that I have a torque wrench. Also, what size stainless bolts did you use?

How Often Do You Ride The Bike?

Yes. When I did the carb work I added new clear lines and a filter - plus I put seafoam in the tank. Have been watching it close since.

How Often Do You Ride The Bike?

I see! Thanks gggGary. Yeah, I do have a rusty tank and I have read that these carb are fussy. I’ll look into it.

How Often Do You Ride The Bike?

I'm sure this has been talked about but I'm curious because I have seen it mentioned that these old bikes need to be ridden, often. Which I'm guessing has to be at a minimum frequency of at least once a week because my bike sat for nine days and had a bit of an issue today. It started as usual...

1980 Special - Brake Light Connector

Thanks! I thought I looked but you’re correct. I think this might be the one even though the image is tiny.

1980 Special - Brake Light Connector

One of the ground wires to the brake lights broke at the connector pin. What would be the best solution to fix this? Do they sell just the metal connector pins?

    BS34 1980 XS650 Special Carb Mix-Match?

Oh, and I received the oil seals that I ordered and put those in as well. No leaks! Removed the old oil seal (left) and installed the new oil seal (right) Before and after of the left side. If you recall from my previous post, the right side did not have a gasket or an O-ring. The left...

    BS34 1980 XS650 Special Carb Mix-Match?

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2020 makes our XS dreams come true! I had ordered a rebuild kit from cruzinimage for the carbs that came with my bike and thought I'd keep them for future use since I picked up the rebuilt carbs. However, over the holiday I believe to have found the problem with...

    BS34 1980 XS650 Special Carb Mix-Match?

Thanks @gggGary. The rubber tips look new. I'll be working on these over the next few weeks little by little but hope to get the floats set. I will also try the clear tube method.

    BS34 1980 XS650 Special Carb Mix-Match?

This thing right? I picked up rebuilt carbs that were claimed to have new gaskets and o-rings; among other things. I pulled them out and polished up the insides and looked at the screen and o-ring. They look new to me. However, the body is a little bang up. Not sure if that matters tho...
