Yes it's a stock rim. I'm thinking of checking with Buchanan's to see what their spokes cost?

Thanks for the reply. That's good to know. Yes the spokes I've been struggling with are the Mikes XS ones. When comparing the original outside spokes to the Mikes XS ones the difference in bend is visible. Thanks again!

    Crabby's Build

Hi, I'm still struggling with the rear wheel. I built a jig and slightly bent all the outside spokes but they are still creating too much tension on the rim and I can only get 5 out of the final 9 spokes into the rim. So I'm thinking of going back and using all of the original spokes. I bead...

Thanks! Yes it's the last set of 9 outies that won't line up. So I will tap in a bit of a bend at the hub. Should i do it to both sides of outies (all 18)? or just the final 9 spokes? It will need a fairly big bend to fit. How did you go about bending them? Thanks again.

Now that I have my bearings installed I'm attempting to lace my wheels, starting with the rear wheel. I'm confidant my lacing pattern is correct due to my reference photos and the new spokes appear to match the old ones. For the first attempt I laced both the inside and outside spokes on the...

    Crabby's Build

I continued heating the hub today and using a small screwdriver to tap between the spacer and bearing and was able to move the bearings slightly to the point of the inner races can now spin freely but it doesn't seem to want to go any further and i'm beating up the edge of the spacer. So now...

Thank you, I will try this. At this point i'm not worried about getting new bearings, I just want to figure out where i went wrong. This has been the greatest learning experience.

Thanks but since the spacer is lined up perfectly there's no way to get purchase. Have you heard of anyone having to resort to attempting to destroy it to get it out?

Thanks for the photo. When I disassembled the wheel originally the spacer seemed to fit the hub correctly. Mine measures fine.

I purchased the bearings at XS650Direct/Mike's XS. They're labeled correctly 6303, 6304 and 6305. I removed the spacer myself, previously it fit properly. They appear to be the same ID. I had the same thought that the bearing width was too wide but since the spacer is between the bearings and...

Here's a shot of both sides. The spacer is right on the bearing on both sides. When thinking of heat should i heat the bearings or try to heat the spacer?

    Crabby's Build

Thanks for the reply. I did use the correct driver size (47mm). You mention that there shouldn't be anything restricting the inner race but the spacer is seated right on the inner race so much so that i can't even remove the bearings again as the spacer won't move to allow me to use a drift and...

Hi There! I'm in the midst of installing new wheel bearings and everything was going smoothly, I started with the front wheel, using a bearing driver I installed the first bearing, then the proper spacer then the 2nd bearing, everything lined up nicely except i guess i hit the bearing one too...

I'm about to paint my top and bottom triple trees. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to deal with the holes for the handle bar bushings and front forks? Can I paint inside them or do they have to be masked and left unpainted in order for proper fitment? Thanks!

Wow it's been 18 months since i've posted although I have accomplished some. My wife had told me that until I finally renovated the basement I couldn't spend my time working on the bike, seemed fair as I'd been promising for several years and it was in rough shape. I spent 8 months working on it...
