    1980 XS650 Special Ignition Pickuo

Jim are the Pamco units repairable or are there some proprietary bits in there?

    So git 'er Done

Beauty of a bike. I’d like to own one of those small displacement British singles.

    Speaking of First Ride

I recall way back when I was into 4wd trucks (but not Jeeps), it was a common occurrence for these vehicles to handle rather poorly. Wide tires on uneven roads made for some interesting drives. Mind you that was back in the ‘80’s. I’m sure tire and suspension tech has come a long way since then.

It followed me home, I swear.

} Fantastic find! Love the look of the T500 and yours looks equally cool. Can’t wait to see the completed project and read your road test results. I should start ear;y and start looking for next winter’s project now. Congrats!🎉🎉

    JesseeS Build Thread

Great looking shed. I wish we could build that big here without permit. We’re only allowed 100 sqft. As long as it doesn’t get cluttered with a lot of other stuff, 200 sqft makes a decent sized shop. When I rearranged my garage last year, I used shelves and milk crates to maximize space...

Cool photo’s. No idea where that dark spot was. Yes I saw the solar flares too!

50/50 ATF acetone mix for stuck engine ?????

I always enjoy watch his stuff… I was a bit surprised at the results. Looks like liquid wrench was the winner after heat. I’ve found heat is the best to get things moving then any penetrating oil to wind out the fastener the rest of the way. I recently depleted my 10yr old can of PB...

    2003 Royal Enfield 500 Deluxe

Quite true about proper procedure for kick starting a bike. On my old 2 strokes it didn’t matter so much. Kick like a bugger and eventually it would start. On a 4 stroke engine it’s different. I never looked but do they tell you in the owners manual, the proper starting procedure for an XS?

    2003 Royal Enfield 500 Deluxe

Nothing like your bikes, but at a local motorcycle show last weekend, I saw a 350 Meteor in person. Looked like a fairly small bike - good beginners bike?

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

More beetle porn. - brake drums painted with POR15 - repacked bearings and new grease seal - removed RF fender to install new beading (rubber trim gasket between body and fender) - removed 4 broken (rusted in) 6mm running board mounting screws (welded nuts to broken bolts) - “painted” bare metal...

    Speaking of First Ride

Sorry to hear about the hands @Downeaster. That's good that you have another hobby / fun vehicle in your sights. I have the bikes and an ‘89 Toyota Supra as toys (plus the beetle once finished). I often think of the day when it’s time to say goodbye to the bikes. That’s why I think I’ll keep...

New to me - ‘95 Honda Shadow VLX600

I loosened the two top clamps and twisted it as much as I could while trying to balance the bike. I think it’s better now (good enough).

Insurance - cost of use. 💸💸💸

I was at a bike show on the weekend and there were various insurers there. I got a quote on the XS, Moto Guzzi and Honda Shadow today. Full coverage for the MG but liability only for the other two bikes - $4500/yr. 😳 I have a squeaky clean record too.

I tried that yesterday and couldn’t move it. Will attempt today again.

    Solar Eclipse

Lots of clouds made for mediocre viewing. We were lucky though because the cloud cover broke for less than a minute when the sun was 99.9% eclipsed. Pretty cool. For fun I tried my auto darkening weld helmet - no good. When the show was just about over, wouldn’t you know it, clear blue skies. Lol

Non-damaging removal of rust from chromed parts.

As suggested vinegar is ok but I find it slow and I don’t like the flash rusting. If you can find Evaporust or equivalent that would be your best bet. Electrolysis on chrome parts isn’t a good idea because of the toxic by products. Quick and fairly easy is wire brush, degrease and a coat of...

New to me - ‘95 Honda Shadow VLX600

Oh ok, that would be easy. 👍 The clutch lever showed evidence of the bars being bumped so maybe the bike had a little tumble that knocked the steering a bit. No other rash so it couldn’t have been that severe. Thx.
