Here's an update on these tanks. After emailing with Omega Racer, I decided to order their tank. Impulsive but I'm excited. Since my XS is a 1981, I only have 1 petcock on the left side. Omega confirmed they can make the tank with 1 instead of 2 petcocks so this will also save me from having...

Great tips on the forks! Today I just kept taking the bike apart. Handlebar, engine guard, and exhaust. The front brake seems to be rusted on the disk. :( Gotta figure that out. Then the forks tomorrow.

Thanks, Jim! I'll reach out to the builder in India to see if they make custom tanks. I found this Omega one today too and emailed them some questions to see if it can be modified for the '81. Only one petcock on my bike. I'll let you know what I find out or anything else that might work. TC...

Sorry to revive an old thread but this is fantastic! My '81 Special II tank is rusted though. I just dumped the gas that had been sitting for 22 years and it was more rust slush than gas. Considering its rusted through on the outside in a couple places and flexes easily in places to slight...

Ah, thanks for the update! I'll keep an eye out for info and options too and post if I find anything that works. Might look into spot restoring/rebuilding in the meantime.
