    Years ago I bought a pair of 77mm pistons and it's time I got around to using them. My only concern is what to do about a head gasket, will a std 75mm do the trick or will I have to source a specific one?

    Planning to use a Custom/Special tank on my '75 B and debadging it. If you've done this did you find you needed to cut off the ends of the badge mounting tangs? It looks a bit marginal whether you'll get a smooth finish without removing them.

    With the bike on it's centre stand with it in gear in 1st and 4th the movement at the circumference of the rear wheel is 3 inches. In all the other gears it is half that, about an inch and a half. I understand that gears work in pairs, so I'm imagining that 1st and 4th are a pair on this box...

    Finally got to check out how much slack in each gear and it is way more than 1.5" in 1st and 4th, more like double that. So it looks there a problem lurking in the gearbox which I doubt is an easy fix and probably needs the cases splitting.

    A long shot but check the fuel tank is venting. Years ago a mates bike had similar symptoms due to over enthusiastic use of chrome polish blocking the vent. So as it ran it was creating a vacuum in the tank until eventually no fuel could get through. With the bike stood a while the vacuum...

    I wish it were just a little clunk but I have a feeling it might be doing damage. I'll keep scanning eBay for a later clutch, though good used parts are few and far between in England.

    I realise it’s a bit of a cheek seeking help before even contributing but here goes :) I have XS650B and currently have a problem with drive train shunt. Even if you ease the clutch out really slowly there’s a clunk you can hear and feel. It’s clearly not good and something somewhere isn’t...
