    Can anyone Identify these shocks??

The Honda CBR-1000F "Hurricane" (87-91) had this device on the left fork too. It was a 41mm fork and I believe it is an anti-dive device.

A new set of rims from Mike's XS has been on my wish list for a long while now. It would cool to be able to scratch them off the list.

    fuel tank lid?

I don't think the older caps will fit the newer tanks. They are too short. The caps are not even interchangeable between the special and later standard model tanks. The emblems for the older tanks are as rare as hen's teeth. The emblem on my tank looks the one in the first picture above...

Oil Leaks - 1978 XS Special

Are the filings magnetic? If they are magnetic, they are likely from the starter bendix gears. They are metal makers. If they are not magnetic, then the filings are likely coming from the forward cam chain guide. The plastic chain guide has been known to completely dis-bond from the aluminum...

    Airbox to cones...

The deeper sump will provide protection to the sump filter. It has been suggested that the sump filters come apart due to crankshaft 'windage'. An additional benefit is a small increase in engine oil capacity; Always a good thing. I've been looking at a deeper sump made in Oz, but I like the...

Mad Max fans..new from Zero engineering

Aahh... excuse me, but isn't Hans Prost & INXS one & the same person? That's OK Hans... Self congratulations are very well deserved! I really dig the cafe racers; Without a doubt, the Ducati looks like it was inspired by the Mad Max movie and Han's cafe racer was perhaps inspired by a Ducati.

    2 into 2 headers ?

I like to exhaust bend of the Specials over the Standards too. I would seriously consider purchasing a set provided they were SS with an I.D. of 1-1/2", and available at a reasonable price. Any idea what the cost might be? I suppose there will have to be consensus amongst the group willing to...

Finally, I got mine! Now what?

When you change your oil, pull the sump plate to check the sump filter mounted to it. They are usually torn, allowing crap to circulate through your engine oil system unless previously modified or replaced with an upgraded sump filter unit. Cheers... Dan

    Powder Coating Hubs and Cylinders

Well... Here goes my 2 cents... I am fairly certain that the hubs are cast aluminum alloys. Heat treatment of cast, extruded and forged aluminum alloys is accomplished at temperatures between 850ºF - 1050ºF. This process allows alloying elements to diffuse evenly throughout the metal. The...

36mm fork? Help ID this part

    The '73/'74 TX750 & '77 XS750-D had 35mm fork tubes. The '77 XS750-D2/'78-E/'79-F had 36mm tubes. It appears Yamaha didn't make any motorcycle with 36mm forks before 1976.

Oil Leaks - 1978 XS Special

The Tach Cable Adapter has 2 seals, an O-Ring on the outside of the Tach Gear Housing, to seal between the housing and the case and an Oil Seal inside the housing, to seal the rotating gear. Try to determine if the oil is coming from between the housing and case or from inside the housing. Both...
