    BS34 Jetting

Well guys I'll check to the power on this one for apart from running a Mikuni HS 40 on my 90 Fatboy for years and years, I wouldn't have thought a single carb of a pair BS Series CV's would not have matched up well to the needs of the 650 V twin. I have little to add that might be relevant re...

    BS34 Jetting

Not to butt in but; Are you sure the carbs are BS 34's? 79' XS 650's came OEM with BS 38's Maybe post a pic of the carbs? Would not hurt to check the jetting and pass that info along as well. Carb boots could be a fitment issue too? I'd be surprised if they fit with the complex angling fit...

(BS series) Throttle Seals: Who's done 'em, who needs to?

The fit is the thing for sure but for what it's worth on the butterfly screws per se I use the Vessel # 1 or 1061 I think....regardless, don't buy one I'll send you the set 00, 0, 1, 2, 3 when I send you the water traps probably next week. Best, Blue

(BS series) Throttle Seals: Who's done 'em, who needs to?

I think I may prefer golf as well as compared to trying to "booger" a stainless steel screw of that extra length. I found that cutting a small "x" across the end of a shorter brass screw and then (after final adjustment prior to tightening...checking for smooth operation and dual...

    Fuel line questions

They were/are fuel flow crossovers so the fuel levels can equalize rather than empty one side of the tunnel. Just connect the two with a piece of tubing. Blue

carburetor drain kit - water trap

That's incredible G's......If you can keep getting gas like that you sure don't need a water trap or anything of the sort. I've got 6 sets of 2F0 BS 38's in my shop right now; the best of which don't come close to looking anything as clean as those. By the way, I'm having some luck learning...

    carbs are killing me!!!

If your carburetors are the 2FO variety OEM to the 78' models....where on earth did you get the impression that you should run 160 main jets? Some more time with the carb manual might not hurt including this page (with my notes). Starting out with the stock set up and going from there would be...

carburetor drain kit - water trap

OK....Trying not to repeat: I had a lot of difficulty trying to find sources for metric threaded brass straight male barbed tubing fittings on this "western side of the pond", so to speak. Tried the adapted M8 x 1 tapered thread brass grease zerks sealed with Teflon tape. It worked....sort...

    Tank Sealant

Done a number of tanks through the years....Kreem, Red Kote, POR 15 and most recently, KBS Gold Standard http://www.kbs-coatings.com/tank-sealers.html As with any of them follow the instructions meticulously. My favorite for use with todays ethanol blended fuels is KBS Gold Standard. Great...

Nice job 5twins! Always feels good to get a couple of good (new to me) tips. Thanks, Blue

    which fork brace

It's possible perhaps but pay special attention to the measurements questionnaire form on Tkat's site....it may require unique CAM cutting. They are all made in that fashion... however, it's more a question of lead time. Tkat's the way to go in my opinion if you also want to run a fender...

carburetor drain kit - water trap

A good rethreading die which I have, takes the parallel threads right to each edge Gary so that's doable. The SAE adapter I used works a well with parallel threads the seal is accomplished between the two aluminum surfaces with a copper washer and works well. So does the 1/4" brass barb plastic...

carburetor drain kit - water trap

Looking for ideas thanks. G's & Leo It's sealing, space and capacity of the trap. There's a little less than 3" space for vertical placement which becomes about 2" of tube capacity with fittings (adapter, tubing barb, tube & plug) and getting the unit cost down and the sealing security up...

    gas in airfilter help please

Hello ethanol blended fuels sitting in bike, liquid water phase forms, separates with water borne crud sitting in the bottom of the tank, petcock & carb then fouling the float needle valve, jets and passageways. Now we got another thorough carb cleaning coming! Don't forget the petcock too. Blue

carburetor drain kit - water trap

You're very right about that Gary. Of all the crudded up sets I've looked at, the left carb is the one (the lowest on the sidestand) is always the most crudded up, corroded, deposited and the one mostly likely to overflow etc. Seeing how the two carbs are connected anyway however it seems to...

carburetor drain kit - water trap

Posting examples of assembly of water traps via both the drilled out grease zerk method and combined M8 and 1/4" tubing barb method. Glad to supply additional details if interested. Works well to trap/separated water phase and borne crud from deteriorated ethanol/gasoline blended fluels...

Converting '78 BS38 Carbs from straight boots to angled

Thanks Leo....I stand corrected re 75' carb boots. I've got a 75' converted to 2F0's of 78' and should have 'remembered' better. Blue

Converting '78 BS38 Carbs from straight boots to angled

This comes up from time to time as many prefer the linked single throttle cable BS 38's of 1976, thru 79 with the angled boots which bring the carbs to a level and parallel alignment. As well from the dual cable un-linked version of pre 76'. Simply put... there needs be a lot more to doing so...
