This might be useful--> NGK BP7ES cross REF Guide

My Briggs 5hp lawn mower thinks exactly the same way. It's nice to see that some things are consistent in the long-term.

If I disappear for a bit, not to worry...

Windows 10 is enough explanation for having problems with Windows 10. But the Solid State Drive is a great upgrade for an old computer, it's almost mandatory.

If I disappear for a bit, not to worry...

Windows 10.... Reminds me, I need to get a bigger hard disk so I can dual boot into Linux again.

What have you done to your XS today?

76 miles, only a few full-throttle pulls. 38 mi with #140 mains (Ninja carbs) 38 more miles with #142 mains. Will try the #145 mains after I fix the plug wire that spit out the crimp-on connector; it REALLY liked that new plug.

Time for a little more Main Jet. And also time to fix a plug wire. Boo...

What have you done to your XS today?

Got the petcock to stop leaking. Turns out the missing ingredient was "More Torque, Dummy!" Moved the timing pickup from fully retarded to middle-of-the-range. 38mile errand turned in 54.44mpg. One plug wanted less pilot, they both wanted more main. Repeat the same trip, but cooler and with no...

What have you done to your XS today?

Reworked the petcock gasket. Works better if you just do a half-moon and forget that silly little void low-left. Also found my copper washer assortment and stepper bits. It's sealed up real good now!

    Camshaft Comparisons (virtual)

But, since I'm just trying to throw cam-v-cam in a neutral, and readily accessible environment, here's Round 2 & 3! First Up: Stock, Shell #1, MegaCycle 250-20 ("All-around street cam"), and MegaCycle 250-30 ("All-around torque cam") First pic (Dyno2) is all four cams with the 5,500rpm~ish...

    Camshaft Comparisons (virtual)

You raise a very good point; airflow quality can beat airflow quantity. How a port delivers the air to the cylinder has great effect on things like swirl, tumble, fuel mixing, and can effect the burn greatly. Those details are things that could win or lose a race for you. But D2K is nowhere...

    Camshaft Comparisons (virtual)

"Working From Home" has left me alone in a small room with my computer for more hours than I should be, and with a wife and kid running around the house.... let's just say looking at skinny girls is right out. So I dusted off a Windows98 virtual machine and an old copy of Dyno 2000 and started...

Finally got some torque out of Mike's 2-1

Thinking about making a 2-2 system, 1 3/8" head pipes. Mufflers with 3" x .060" shells and 2.5" innards would have pretty consistent cross-section areas. Would have to re-math if I was going to do a 2-1 based on the Mike's system (except it would actually fit...) Edit: and re-use the stock...

Finally got some torque out of Mike's 2-1

It bleeds off the pressure before the pulse gets to the end. It would also turn the return wave to mush, probably lose some torque somewhere. Pipe needs a square end to have the sudden change in acoustic impedance to send back the strongest negative return wave. Unfortunately, this is also the...

Finally got some torque out of Mike's 2-1

Now I have to figure out what I want to do next. I want to build a system that doesn't lose power, but isn't stupid loud. The question is, 2-1 that actually fits the bike and lets me install the crash bar (Mike's doesn't), or a 2-2, with a crossover pipe? Mufflers are mostly figured out.

Finally got some torque out of Mike's 2-1

Tried out the old 2-1 kit after blowing out a stock headpipe. It still had the stupid mid-range lack of torque with the 18" Cocktail Shaker. A gutted Harley bagger muffler was worse, and sounded like the neighbor's annoying 3-wheeler. So, I scabbed on a piece of 18" straight pipe, behind the...

Ninja EX500 carbs on an XS650?

Mine's been a wild adventure, and I have a lot of needles that could be sold. Settling in in an HKF needle... Got close with a set of stock pipes, and then cracked a header. Back on the 2-1 setup, and starting over. Think I'm going to make my own exhaust and go EFI.
