    Aluminum Girder chopper

Started this build for last years chop-off. Finally finished it and put on a few hundred miles. I started with designing and building the front end. The bike is pretty light so it's a single shock set-up. Built as much as possible myself, frame, seat pan, bars, sissy, machine work and rebuilt...

    650central sparx alternator?

Thanks for the info guys. I'm riding this new build from Iowa to the born free show in California this summer and I need reliability. I don't mind paying a little extra for piece of mind.

    650central sparx alternator?

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I noticed that 650central is offering a sparx charging system and was wondering if anyone had first hand knowledge of one?

    Pro Taper Clutch Lever?

Eventually I would like to get one for my build. They look really nice and if they hold up that well on motorcross bikes I should think they would last a lifetime on one of these. If you go to their website they offer some really nice stuff. Usually you get what you pay for

Engine rebuild tips (Not so common)

Just finished installing a new cam chain on my '71 re-build. Used a spacer on two of the dowel bolts and tightened them with the acorn nuts just enough to pop the chain ends on the cam for riveting with the bearings installed. Worked better than trying to pry it on.

    Advice for cleaning carbs

Welcome to the forum! There is a ton of info on the subject of carbs in this forum. If the carbs are 38's then they are not original to the bike. Personally I would replace all the rubber components including the butterfly shaft seals. You can polish things up with some steel wool as long as you...

    Ultrasonic parts cleaner

I own one and use it for carbs all the time. They work great but are not a miracle machine, you still need to much of the cleaning ahead of time with carb cleaner. They do discolor the bodies a bit but the cavitation that occurs gets into smaller cavities than just hand cleaning.

    xs650 build off 2014!!

Good to see other guys are riding hardtails long distance! My longest day was 700 miles on mine and that was enough. 300 is a good comfortable distance. I have 750 miles to the show to do in two days so It should be a good ride.

    xs650 build off 2014!!

I know this isn't an xs but the hp is about the same. A buddy of mine built this and it was fun as hell to ride but had some issues getting the front end to act correctly with the trike addition. I'd love to see one xs powered at the build off!

    xs650 build off 2014!!

To figure the spring rate on a girder you would take the total weight of the bike and rider multiplied by 14%. Then correct by the mechanical advantage of the front end. For example: spring travel is 3" to the vertical wheel travel of 3.75" gives you a mechanical advantage of 1.25. Now add your...

    6061 T6 Aluminum Girder Build

Just a quick update: Shock came in and its awesome! Had to do a little more machining on the upper tree to make room for the shock mount. Also finished up the lower shock mount and machined a couple .110 spacers for the top, those things were a pain on the old lathe I was using. Its starting to...

Better to have re-phased and lost than never to have re-phased at all

Do you mean a F800R? I have a 2011 and have almost 20,000 miles on her. It does vibrate more than I had hoped. They have a weight attatched to the crank to try and offset the vibration but at 75 to 85 its about the same as riding my rigid. HA:D
