Okay cool. I plan to take the new/correct ones to my guy that did the bore and have him measure the new ones and make sure they are still within spec. I figured they were the same size I just couldn't find anywhere online saying that the 70-73 pistons were 75mm.

I get that, that's why I'm asking if there is any difference in the bore on 70-73 from 74-82. If it's just the pin size/placement, then I know I'm alright I just wanted to know diameter.

So I'm doing a top end rebuild and I ordered a set of oversized pistons. I got them in and took them along with my jug to get bored. I got them and the jug back today and while looking at the new piston and an old one side by side I notice that pin size and location is different. :wtf::doh:"oh...

That's interesting. There wasn't an obvious leak but it does look too me like oil as well. While I have the topend torn down, I'm going to clean the head, lap the valves and seats, clean the valves and install all new gaskets, seals and o-rings. The only thing I'm not sure on is the cam chain...

Also Tom, the plugs were fine and I did have a float go bad and leak on the dirty side recently but I replaced it immediately and changed the oil. That has been since the knocking started. Float heights are both set within spec and needle valves are a year old with new o-rings.

I was running with pod filters and a 2into1 with an emgo short reverse megaphone. I was running 1 over on the pilot and mains but I was getting some hesitation at wide open so I went to 2 over on the mains and that seemed to work pretty well.

Now that I think about it, the kid I bought it from had been running it with leaking petcocks. He also didn't seem to know much about tweeting the bike so I bet he was running it super lean on that side because a ton of gas was leaking out before it got to the carb.

Yeah, I would like to go with the 750 big bore but I was wanting to fix it with least expense. Yeah, I was hoping one of the gurus on the forum could tell me if they think that piston wear looks like it would deffinetly cause the knocking.

Thanx Blue. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on em. I saw them the other day but I wasn't sure if they were the same as mine but I just noticed the overflows on the bowls. Cool beans. Now hopefully I can get this baby idling like a champ finally!
