Introducing Me and my 1983 Heritage Special Restoration

Thanks Guys. I'm thinking I want this bike to be really nice but not totally stock. Might wanna go SS spokes for the look... as I prob have to repolish the hubs anyway.. Good news is I will have the original set to copy the pattern from! So, looking at MikeXS site, there is a Chrome or an alloy...

Introducing Me and my 1983 Heritage Special Restoration

Was digging around in storage, looking for parts I know I have and came across some wheels I forgot! Think I got em off CL when I realized my rims chrome wasn’t coming back. Front one is laced already, but the rear needs doing. The hubs have been cleaned up but I suspect I might need to go...

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Yup.... Already achieved that status! Did a Lotus Intake for a buddy and after he bolted it on, he had to unbolt it and deliver everything close to it for the treatment! I can post some pics and share my setup, and experiences here if its appropriate and people want?

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

The sad part is that after you have had a part done, or seen one, nothing looks good without the treatment!

Thanks! Will take a closer look at it all. My Slurry pump on my Vapor Blaster took a dump... just a Chinesium $65 pump that was really more for "Proof of Concept". It stopped working and is all gritty when I spin it... Imagine THAT! :P $300 Tsurami pump on its way..

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Wow, just spotted and waded thru this thread! Great work, nice tools, and love the camaraderie! Could add so much, but then I'd be repeating myself, more than old guys normally do! Will ad a link to my rambling thread over on Garage Journal for those who might find something interesting... Ive...

Introducing Me and my 1983 Heritage Special Restoration

Yes indeed! Sadly, the smallest one I have is 1/2” and it will be too big for the carb rail.... but I have an idea.... or two... There is no way this POS is going back on regardless. So, the Die Cast XS750 Carb tops arrived today... Nice enough, but looked like they had been shot with some...

Shoot! Now I see what you meant about the washer! Its probably in the sump of the Vapor Blaster now!

Ha. I just noticed how much that high compression Alfa Piston resembles a XS650 piston.... just supersized! Almost finished vapor blasting a spare Alfa head. very happy with the results.

Got one of the emulsion jets out, and will do the other tomorrow. Glad I did, as I see gunk in there. No kidding about the fine holes in that sucker. As far as the other jet, in the shorter tower forward, I now have them both out. Not sure if it’s a model thing, but those towers did not have any...

Will do it today on both. #2 Carb needs a detail going over yet, I still see black paint and gasket residue in the nookes and crannies... Its like that old saying, 95% takes 5% of the time, but that last 5% takes 95% of the time!

Introducing Me and my 1983 Heritage Special Restoration

Got the RH carb stripped and first pass blasted yesterday. A little more detail to do, but looks good. Question: What exact carbs do I have here, and where should I get a comprehensive build kit from? The needles and jets are gummy but I think a good soak in cleaner might do, I have a rack of...

Introducing Me and my 1983 Heritage Special Restoration

Awesome info Guys! Found and ordered a pair of alloy carb tops! $20 shipped. Will look at that Carb mod when I am rebuilding! Put nearly an hour into scraping the float bowl gasket off the LH carb body... Absolutely the first time in my life I’ve wished for a smaller tool.... I think I got it...

Yup! So, my carb tops are not great. Rust has broken thru the chrome. Are these available anywhere or should I scuff and powdercoat?
