    Main fuse blowing...Sometimes. Need Advice.

Jan - It's the original wiring, like the schematic above, from the 82 XS with a few items deleted or bypassed. I bypassed the ignition switch and put in a toggle, all the old speedo wires are disconnected (neutral light etc.) I get good readings from the wires when it's not running. No shorts...

    Main fuse blowing...Sometimes. Need Advice.

My main fuse is blowing but not all the time. 82 xs650. Started last season when I was on a ride. I was traveling home after many hours of riding and the bike shut off. Found the main fuse to be blown. I tried replacing it and it blew again. After about 20 minutes I tried another fuse and It...

Where to find front sprocket shims?

Angus - 2000 Yamaha R1 front forks, handlebars, wheel etc. Just needed to have the neck stem from the R1 re-machined 1/2" longer and get an all Balls fork conversion kit and it mounted right up. Lol. Not really. Because then I had to weld in a steering stop block and a mount for the steering...

Where to find front sprocket shims?

Thanks guys. I will see what Gary Poh has but from what i've seen so far his setup is a bit extreme. I only need an 8th inch or so for good clearance. Good eye Leo, It's a reproduction Willy's Jeep tire. Tight fit but i'll make it work. Only problem is now I need to make a custom 16" rim for my...

Where to find front sprocket shims?

I fit a more robust tire to my 83 (might be an 81, I forget) xs650 and as expected, the chain rubs the tire a bit. Does anyone know where to get shims for the front sprocket for these? While i'm at it, does anyone know the size of the rear sprocket bolts? I think they are M10 with a 1.00 thread...

Help! No neutral light/no headlight, no start

Hey Scott, I'm having the same problem as you. RetiredGentelman was helping me try to figure it out. (Thanks Again) I'm suspect of my neutral switch now. I have the safety relay bypassed for the time being and when I tried to start it, it was in gear. After I put it in neutral and tried again...

My starter worked when I broke it.

Brushes are new. Battery is strong, it cranks very well. There must be a relay that turns on the headlight circuit and ignition circuit when the motor begins to crank. And then leaves it on until you shut the key off. I suspect that relay or power to it is not working properly. Am I guessing...

My starter worked when I broke it.

Hey Guys, Hope I have an easy one here. Drove the bike for about 40 miles, ran fine, shut it off and now wont start. No spark i'm sure. And normally the headlight turns on after I crank it but it's not turning on now. Rear light works when ignition key is turned on, I can hear the relay click...
