Carburetor Rebuild - Motor Races On Idle

Hi. I recently rebuilt my carburetor, the main reason was to rejet. The previous owner fit non-stock exhausts and the sparkplugs were fouled with dry soot indicating that the motor was running rich. I adjusted the pilot and needle for low and mid, I did not adjust the main (yet). I ran some...

Clips for fabricated seat pan to attach seat pan to frame

Hi, Can anybody give me some ideas on how to attach a seat pan that I have made to the frame. I wanted to find something like a terry tube clip to clip the pan to the tubing for easy removal. I know that this is for a light bulb, but something like this would be interesting...

Newbie: 1980 XS650 US Taillight Wiring Questions

So like my other posts it turned out that this was really easy after a little investigation. I'm sorry for wasting peoples time. I put together some photos on how I converted the old 2 bulb wiring harness to a single double filament bulb. First I disassembled the housing for the new taillight...

Newbie: 1980 XS650 US Taillight Wiring Questions

Hello all. I am in the process of replacing the stock taillight on my 1980 XS650 with a non-DOT approved single bulb light. I picked up the taillight that I am going to use and the wiring is very simple, a red and black lead connect directly to the bulb socket. On the US 1980 XS650, the...

    Ideas For Mounting Crankcase Breather

Wow, I feel pretty stupid now. But I used one of the frame mounts for the plastic cover that used to cover the old airbox. If there is a better position, I'd still like to know.

    Ideas For Mounting Crankcase Breather

Hi all, So I mistakenly ordered the following crankcase breather from xs650direct: http://www.mikesxs.net/products-40.html Part #15-0682, I messed up the order, intended to order the breather filter with the diecast mount bracket so I could bolt it onto the frame. Anyways, enough of my...

Front Brake Viewport Damage (1980 XS 650 Disk Brakes on Mag Wheels)

Hi all, When I came back from a ride yesterday I noticed that the plastic cap and assembly for the front brake view(examination)port had become dislodged and had fallen down into the main disk brake caliper assembly (Not sure if that is a good description). I am wondering if it is safe to pull...

My stupid is about to show, but where do builders normally hide the ignition coils? Most builds that I see with nice clean lines have no coils in sight. Are they tucked down beside the battery box?
