Hard to visualise without a diagram but it sound like they may be relays? Usually black plastic 'cubes' about 20x20x20mm, with four poles numbered 85, 86, 87 and 30. If not then post up some pics for a better guess.
Looks good Pigford. +1 on the seat swap - also prob'ly worth giving the carbs a good clean out and checking the airbox rubbers and inlets for leaks/cracks. Are you considering going for a pma setup (Pamco too maybe...)?

Got the XS featured in this month's mag here in the UK. The title of the feature is "Set (Re)phasers to Stun" and they have made a mistake in the sub-title which mentions a 'GX 650' :wtf:
