    short sensor rant

    - there is a lot of extra stuff in these looms...easy to trim them down quite a bit, often easier to start from scratch - oil pressure/temp- and volt- meters are actually meaningful additions

    Electrical question

    - you cant run the original XS electrical system batteryless, it needs an energised power source for the alternator brushes - if you replace the original alternator with a permanent magnet alternator then you have the option of running a battery as normal with or without e-start, or batteryless...

    Electrical question

    - wire it in, in place of the capacitor ... you cant run a capacitor with an original alternator-need a permanant magnet alternator - i ride batteryless and kickstart all the time, no worries

    Chain length and master link

    - pitch is the same, width is different - nominal dimensions: - width 520 = 1/4" - (0.25") - [6.35mm] 530 = 3/8" - (0.38") - [9.52mm] - pitch..*both chains, standard #50 - 5/8" - (0.625") - [15.88mm] - a 520 chain and sprocket set - same pitch, narrower than a 530, reasonable weight saving

    engine dies w/ headlight on

    - the earthed brushes belong to electrical systems with separate regulators and rectifiers-i think the cut off was around 79...the later systems with integrated rec-reg were earthed through the regulator and the brushes were powered from a 10A source through the ign switch - look at this...

    timing

    - when the engine is complete, both rockers will rock on the compression stroke - when assembling you need TDC on the left cylinder, timing is sorted with the cam...with TCI ign wasted spark means you dont have to complete the process with points timing too
