Bad crank bearing, AGAIN
Helo from Toronto. I have a totally restored 79 special that runs like a dream.Well, it did till last week. The engine started to make a high pitch noise that increased with RPM's. Right away I new what it was, ask me how. Changed the oil and found metal filings :mad: Less than 2000 miles...- xsfanman

For Sale - complete 1979 alternator and related parts
Hi , I just replaced my original alternator, regulator and rectifier from my 79 xs650. It work without any problems but I replaced it for a Hugh's PMA so I can use my heated vest and better lights. $ 150.00 for the lot. plus shipping This came out of a points machine and it will not work on...- xsfanman

Valve lash gets larger as the engine warms up
My 79 special sounds like a coffee can full of stones. The engine has been professionally rebuilt top to bottom.It runs great and has power to spare. After adjusting the cam chain and valves several times as per the book,(00 2.4 and 0.06) today after a 5 mile run I checked the valves again but...- xsfanman
