New Toy for my Springfield XD40

Do these effect the point of impact or how the gun handles? I like the idea of laser sights, but i always read about how various systems have "issues". I've always used Trijicon glo sights. You can pull your pistol out of your nightstand at night, see them fine and kill zombies no prob.

    Question for machinists and metallurgists

Could be tooling marks from a stamping die. Then again, I'm about 3 sheets to the wind right now so don't quote me on anything.

    Feedback for jchrisk1

I bought a Kerker 2 into1 off of jchrisk1. All in all, a good experience. Just make sure that you pay him right away or he'll send your stuff to you one piece at a time. Delay further and you'll get a visit from "Big Tony".

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

No, they make the same power, within 0%. No it doesn't. As I have already proven, the difference is too slight to be noticed. A maximum of .0012" @ 10 deg ATDC, when cylinder pressures at at their highest, is undetectable. There is no difference in piston speed, that's already been...

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

Well, if we were talking about this at something close to TDC, then you would be right. But this .031" is occuring when the piston is already more than halfway down the bore, too far away to have an effect on either combustion or valve timing. Valve timing would be the closest, but you'd have to...

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

Well, isn't that the beauty of the scientific process, you don't have to take anyone's word for anything, you can test it yourself. Science works BITCHES!!!!!

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

 My reason is that some people waste a lot of money on something that they think will increase the power of their engine and it really doesn't. If you're doing the work yourself, it's one thing, but to pay someone else can get expensive, and it's downright fraudulent if the people...

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

Mr. Riggs, Sorry for the garbaled explanation, but I'm a conceptual thinker, and formulas don't make much sense to me. I understand trig as a concept and not a formula. I'll try this again. Since an answer in inches will make more sense to people, I'll take the xs650 stroke and round it...

Info for those wanting to do a long rod motor

pfft!! more theory with no hard data to back it up. Explain to me again how a .0004" difference in piston movement creates these massive power gains??

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

Since when did trigonometry become "opinion"?? :wtf: If you even bothered reading my OP, you would see that there's no opinion in it, just facts.

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

It's no "formula" per se, just basic trig. As soon as the piston goes past TDC, two triangles are formed. Since the stroke and rod lenght are known, piston movement can be calculated. First you decide which degree you want to measure, lets say 10 deg. You take the stroke and divide by the cosine...

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

I'm not expressing an opinion here, I'm pointing to facts about the true effect of a longer rod. The difference is so small it's actually difficult to measure, at 10 deg ATDC, the difference is about .0005". Whoop tee doo!!! Lets see the dyno sheets to prove it. I do have a lot of...

Can we please put an end to the "long connecting rod" myth??

Seriously people. I don't know how many times I need to explain this. In order to obtain the theoretical benefits of a long connecting rod, the rod would need to be a couple of feet long. Pick up a scientific calculator with the trigonometry functions on it. Calculate piston movement for both...

High performance XS650 engine with CR500 rods

I thought I had already de-bunked the myth of long rod engines. Spare yourself the effort of building a long rod engine to see the difference in piston movement. There's this branch of math called "trigonometry". You can use it to see the effect of of a long rod vs a short rod...
