    No Spark no start

Well have to correct myself, in daylight the points are a little blacken and one starting to show a little pitting. It wasnt the best lighting last night. As my senior mind recalls, one old time way to check the condensors was to see if a spark would cross the points if opened manually with...

    No Spark no start

Points were checked gapped and timed correctly With plugs completely removed from cylinders grounded and ignition on there is no spark on either plug while engine is cranking. If I leave ignition on and manually open closed point I get a spark across the points and on one of the plugs.

    No Spark no start

Hello, been a while since I’ve been on this forum or on my bike. Have a TX650 which has been garaged for about a year due to illness. Have kept bike on battery tender and start her up at least once a month. Went to start her up today and give us both some exercise and it was a no go. So far...

Little or no spark either side

Leo, Thanks, was wondering if I could continue troubleshooting the spark issue as long a regulator was disconnected. I know that now with regulator removed I have same voltage less a couple hundredths at coils as at the battery. Surely didn't want to do any more damage. The wiring on this...

Little or no spark either side

Retiredgentleman, Rotor failure I'm sure is not that uncommon at this age, but know that it was at spec couple of months ago even a couple of days ago when all this started. don't think anything I did could have cause failure, but I have be testing it in the garage with the alternator cover...

Little or no spark either side

Aldo, Thanks, yes rotor replacement, not that difficult with correct puller etc., just time/effort involved and the fact that riding weather up North is getting shorter and shorter with each passing day. Not a winter rider myself, don't have the correct gear. Plus have some minor oil...

Little or no spark either side

Retiredgentleman, Your right as many times as I have checked slip ring to slip ring before and got around 5ohms...now suddenly down to around 2.5 ohms. Assume upgrading regulator won't impact this enough until the rotor is repaired/replaced, and no way will I be able to get enough spark...

Little or no spark either side

OK so I went through the whole bike over the last two evenings, charging system, ignition system etc., about the only thing I didn't check was the valves and timing chain as those would have nothing to do with the plugs. Everything was within spec. So I started measuring voltage from the...

Not NEUTRAL about finding neutral getting p!##*% actually

Actually did try stretching it out a bit, but will try the washer trick. For now will try to get a couple of miles on the bike and try to enjoy it. Thanks

Not NEUTRAL about finding neutral getting p!##*% actually

Thanks for maybe the best suggestions so far as to grin and bear it as this doesn't seem to have a solution. I have the old cable installed right now so I'll carry Mikes as a backup for now.

Put on original clutch cable...readjusted and no change within 4 miles no longer could shift at a dead stop. Came home put bike on center stand, and with no weight on back end can shift, find neutral, no problems at all. Take bike down, go for a ride, stop, try to shift, and it acts like it is...

Not NEUTRAL about finding neutral getting p!##*% actually

Well got her out this morning and the good news is the spring loaded clutch basket is a bit smoother when starting out. The bad news still after about 4 miles of riding if I don't down shift or find neutral before coming to a dead stop, need to turn bike off, find neutral restart and then...

Not NEUTRAL about finding neutral getting p!##*% actually

Pushrod and mushroom end all look good. Clutch spring all centered in pressure plate. No issues with pressure plate scraping on clutch cover. No flexing of worm assembly outward, screw gets pulled inward toward clutch/right side Recap of reassembly. Doubled checked friction plates all...

Did pull the old cable out of the spare parts box lubed it up with 30 weight oil and have it waiting in the wings. Measured old vs new (Mikes) and can see no difference other than thickness of the inner wire. Pull should be the same.

OK continuing to check and double check. First picture of worm gear shows what I believe is correct installed position and ball bearing is in place Second picture shows push rods Top =2 piece original w/ 5/16 bearing, Bottom new 1 piece from Mikes. Mikes is maybe 1/32 longer and the...
