    Free - Floating Tool(s)

Thank you kindly. I used to be on here daily, but due to my worsening medical condition, I've been forced off of the road permanently. There is a bit of a happy ending, though; I've moved from Pennsylvania to Hawai'i. No more ice and snow for me. Oh, and I'm quite pleased that the tool sharing...

For Sale - BS34 Carbs (OldSkoolCarbs rebuilt)

I have a set of BS34's from what I was told was an '81, so they have the pull knob choke. They were completely redone by Rick West of OldSkoolCarbs back in 2012, but they have sat in the box ever since they were delivered. I never even got to ride them before I was forced off bikes due to my...

    Rotor Overheating

I have an odd issue, my HHB PMA rotor looks like it overheated and appears to be degaussed. Its surface shows heat damage and, while still installed on the bike, has almost no magnetic pull on the outside face. I have yet to pull the thing off, but the surface of the rotor is brown and the HHB...

Giveaway: Monstercraftsman Mono Shock Seat (ends 11pm CST June 4, 2013)

"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one." Wilhelm Stekel I first read this quote after I had been discharged from the Army, and after I had met the woman who would be wife (tens years...

Value is a good helmet and jacket

Thank heavens you were prepared, another poster-child for wearing all of the right protective gear. Any chance you can grab a picture of your helmet? (I am very interested in damage patterns for comparison) Best of luck on your recovery!

    Bad Vibrations? READ THIS

Hey Hugh! Have you thought about marketing a DVD or digital video? A UK mechanic, Steve 'Sausage' Porter, made a DVD of a complete engine rebuild for antique Vespas, done in real time. I bought one years ago for about $50 when I bought my first scooter, and I had no way of paying for a mechanic...

    bs34 carb question

A pencil would probably be great, you only need to tap the bottom. If it were me with an unsharpened pencil, then I'd use the eraser side on the jet. Nice a squishy.

    bs34 carb question

Once you have your needles and diaphragms out, remove the bowls and main jet from the bottom of the carb. It is the big one that you can see, not the tiny one in the tube with the rubber stopped, that is your idle jet. Be careful when removing your main jet, there is a washer underneath that you...

    Parasitic Draw or Electric Lamprey

I play frailing/clawhammer/drop thumbing. I was taught by a Mummer when I was about 15 years old and it is fairly common in Pennsylvania. It isn't as easy as bluegrass, it isn't something you can get down in a couple weeks. I play about a dozen instruments, and the banjo was the second hardest...

    Parasitic Draw or Electric Lamprey

To most people, just playing a banjo within earshot can be considered assault. I'll see if I can get some footage of a more physical sort, although that may be impossible now. Here's me a couple of years ago.

    Parasitic Draw or Electric Lamprey

Excellent, thank you very much! That's what I was thinking, I ride at least twice a week so I figured .03 mA wouldn't be too much of a problem. I love when I don't have to spend energy or money to fix something. I am also grateful knowing that I didn't screw something up. Thank you so much...

    Parasitic Draw or Electric Lamprey

My meter is good. It's showing 2.5 Volts, and it is only on the leads directly from the regulator to the battery, no other connections to the battery. If I am correct, the regulator is directly connected to the HHB PMA, and then to the two battery terminals. The connections are good, just one on...

    Parasitic Draw or Electric Lamprey

Nope, parasitic draw is with key off. Think of the alarm on a car; it is draining energy from the battery when the engine/key is off, like a lamprey on a trout. I do agree as to the insignificance of .03 mA, I was wondering if it is a common ailment of a rectifier.

    Parasitic Draw or Electric Lamprey

The old battery that was in the bike when I bought it died on me on Wednesday and I had to get a tow home. Thankfully I had seen this coming (my float charger alerted me that something was funny), and I had already ordered a 12 Cell Ballistic battery, which of course arrived just after I left...

    Stupid Musings (It involves magnets)

It is actually better to join them as they naturally would through their strongest poles because it would increase the strength of the magnetic field for each set. I had thought of a stack in an aluminium tube mounted as S/N - N/S - S/N with the center unit as the only movable structure, mounted...

    Stupid Musings (It involves magnets)

I definitely hear ya about just trying it. It's a prickly idea, it just sticks in your head because you'd think someone would have tried it by now. As for protecting the ignition, phones, and cards, etc., if using solid state magnets, a Halbach array would be useful. It is a way of arranging...
