Post pics of your painted motors !!

Any high heat paint will work but keep in mind even the best from a spray can- PJ1- is not even close to the durabilty of the factory coatings which are probably powder coated. Gas, brake fluid and oil will soften even desolve spray paint but at least touch ups are easy. In order for powdercoat...

Nice work. Its no longer on CL. He wanted $3,400. I do like the quality of his work and sense of humor.

    Delkevik 2 into 1

Im restoring a 1975 XS650 for my brother and it has a 2 into 1 system that I believe to be MAC. The construction of the metal is very very thin and light. The bike is missing its centerstand and I wonder if it had to be removed for the exhaust. Anyway on that bike I want to go with stockish...

Post pics of your painted motors !!

I use the PJ1 engine case paint. It is a bit more durable to exposure to fuel and brake fluid than other spray can paint- not fuel proof but if you wipe off in a timely manner gas wont eat it up. My engine jug and head were off. I used a rotary tool with a sandpaper a cartridge roll to remove...

    street tracker rear fender/seat/tail light

I just emailed Omars asking about buying just a seat pad from them for a used XRWS fender I have. He asked why I needed just a seat. He stated people copy their products. I told him the used one I have is damaged and not usable. Jeff Quinn replied they have no extras- would put my name on a...

Rustoleum High Heat - a different looking engine paint (not Kal Gard but pretty good)

There are several paints that will look good and stand up to heat on our bike engines. The problem occurs when gas or break fluid gets spilled onto this paint. I use PJ-1 engine case paint. It will soften when excessively exposed to gas (Carbs dripping overnight..Grr) but it is more durable...

Do you wave or nod? Or not?

"Never made fun, simply linked and compared them. If you took offense its possibly because the shoe fits. So who cares? you do for one. If you think its because I don't own one, you obviously missed my introduction. If you think I only own 2 bikes, your still wrong. To get back on subject...

    Who's your Yammy?

I rode one in 1983 when I was 13. I remember how incredibly hard it instantly pulled with a pleasing "Honk" while pulling.

Do you wave or nod? Or not?

I wave. In my area the guys that dont wave are stereo type self proclaimed extreme tough guy harley riders OR guys riding big metric V twin cruisers. I wave at scooter pooter riders but most dont wave back- I think they have been belittled so they dont bother.

    Blow-By Attachments To Pods

By plumbing back into the air intake it retains the Positive Crankcase Ventilation process- PCV. The automotive world debates this same procedure as well. Its beneficial to have the crankcase not only vented but to have a constant vacuum pullingthis air from the engine- thus plumbed into the...

Anybody look down there nose at your xs?

Harley has always done a great job with their marketing and dealer network. They are in a dilemma. Their customer base is aging and aged. They have now entry level low cost line up- well they do now with the Street 500 and 750s. Nice bikes actually. Breaking tradition with h20 cooling...

    Who Has An XS11/1100

I have one. They are very durable fast fun bikes. The biggest well known problem is the dogs on second gear round off and when this happens the bike will jump-skip in and out of second gear. If the damage is not too severe there is a "Dremel fix" which means grinding off the rounded metal and...

Painting frame with Rustoleum appliance paint

Spray can paint works great but just not on things like fuel tanks and side covers. Its just not durable even if the can claims "Rock hard enamel finish" Frames really dont see alot of abrasion and contact like a fuel tank. I used PJ1 Gloss frame spray can paint and it is better than regular...

    Chipped Surface

Its not a structural area. If it were my bike Id replace the bushing, clean real good with lacquer thinner install new seal and then use black permatex. The cone applicator will let you inject into the crack opening and do a LITTLE extra outward onto the aluminum and the seal surface. (Not so...

    Starter gear question

If the JB does not hold up I have used Permatex black to seal non structural aluminum - exposed to mild heat and oil. If you cleaned the aluminum fanatically the JB should hold up. There shouldnt be stress in that repair area.

    130 Rear Tire

The drive chain on my 1980 brushes the white letters on the 130 Spitfire Bridgestone because of the width. Ground a big clearance notch into the chain guard too (If your running one)

XS650 Clutch Worm Actuator experiment & tidbits

Not to change the direction of this thread but I wonder if this will improve finding neutral while at a stop idlng. (I can find it- just gotta blip the throttle up to 2600rpm and then real quick a second pop it into neutral as the RPMS are descending) Nice investigative problem solving!!!!
