Thanks for the response. I tried that before I posted, but I really couldn't find anything for a 79 that showed me what I needed. Nothing really focused on the fuse block, it was more along the lines of this is how you wire your bike and a couple wires running into a big black square with the...
I'm about to go pick up a blade style fuse holder for my 79 Special. The stock fuse box is in terrible condition, it's not labeled, and all of the tabs are broken so wires are just hanging all around it. I was wondering if somebody could help me out with a picture or diagram so I know if I...
Hey guys. I have a peanut tank knock-off with some haggard petcocks. The only problem is, the threading is 7/16, and I can only find petcocks in 1/2, 3/8, and 3/4. I'm hoping that somebody has had this problem and could point me in the right direction to find some petcocks that will fit. Also, I...
Thanks for the fast response. What if I just picked up a couple rebuild kits from Mikes? I was planning on it anyway. Only problem is it says that the o-rings aren't guaranteed to fit...
I haven't synched them yet, I'm planning on getting to it tomorrow. Do you know anything about the stock float heights? From what I understand these carbs have never been torn down... But when the bike isn't running and the petcocks are on, it just pours gas out of the air filters. Since the...
I finally finished my build up and got it started. It pops a little but seems to idle fine when warm and has yet to shut off on me... So I think I'm just going to play with the air/fuel mixture screw a little instead of spending money on jets. My question is, how far out should I take the...
I just got my 79 XS650 Special running since chopping it and putting on the pod filters. It ran ok, but after I shut it off I noticed that one of the carbs was pouring gas out of the pod filter. I'm assuming one of the floats seized up? I'm not sure exactly what carbs are on it, but I know...
So you have both front and rear both operating off of one handle and just lowered the ratio to the front so you didn't go over the bars everytime you hit the brakes? Or did you rig up a second lever somewhere? Because if you can run both off of one level, I'd rather keep the front brake too.
I'm so tired of trying to fabricate a pivot system for a disc brake setup and then it hit me, would it be possible to just get a longer brake line and instead of running it to the front caliper just running it to the rear? I didn't plan on running a front brake anyway, I just don't know if it's...
Sorry about that, the bike is a 79 XS650. I notice the handlebar ground you're talking about when I was checking for loose connections. It goes into the headlight bucket and attaches to the bolt coming into the headlight from the turn signal. I just checked it and sanded it down and it's...
Sorry this might have gotten a little confusing. Basically what happened is my bike ran fine. I unbolted everything from the stock battery box, ripped the box out, and welded on the new hardtail. All of my wiring and components are just hanging freely, I am going to hide it all in a fake oil...
I actually just ran a set of jumper cables from a running car. The positive to the power wire and the negative to the frame of the bike. When I pulled one of the plugs and jumped the starter I'd let it turn for 15-20 second intervals. Within those 15-20 seconds of continuous turning I'd see...
I checked every connection on the bike and I can't find anything loose. On/off switch is set to on. I checked the coils and connections and they seem fine. I'm pretty confused.
Hey guys I'm having a little problem. Well I just welded on my hardtail. Before that I unbolted all of the electrical components from the battery box, zip tied them together, and moved them out of the way so I could cut and weld. I just moved them back into place to put them into the fake oil...
What's up everybody. I'm doing my first XS build and I'm pretty excited about it so I figured I'd post it up here like somebody cares haha.
I picked up my stock XS650 in decent shape, titled and running, for $400.
I got a hardtail section, forward controls, fake oil tank and...
I'm building my first XS and just welded the hardtail on. I have forward controls and linkage, but I need to figure out a way to make some kind of pivot. Right now I have the mags wheels with a disk brake, but I'm thinking about switching to spoked wheels with a drum because I think it will be...
