    1 is the loneliest number?

You both are so kind to comment given that theres so much in those carb guides. Bushy, I am running aftermarket electronic ignition, and I will hi through your checklist. Merci! 5twins, thank you! I feel bad as I feel like you’ve repeated stuff from those carb guides. Seriously...

    1 is the loneliest number?

Plot thickens: looked at my spark plugs, which I guess I should have done first. Both are covered in dry black sooty deposits. My manual says that means the mix is overly rich. This squares with the beautiful blue plums of flame igniting from my tailpipe upon turning the engine off (unused...

    1 is the loneliest number?

Gotcha. Good point. So do you think this is a good plan of attack: 1) check ignition timing 2) check which carb exactly I have 3) try to tune the carbs with ignition dialed in 4) if step 3 doesn’t work, then consider rejetting. btw everyone: I am currently reading through the carb guides...

    1 is the loneliest number?

Heya Bushy. Thanks for the advice. I’ve never rejetted. I’m running the stock carbs on my 79 and I’ve got the mikes 2-1.

    1 is the loneliest number?

Hey all, I hope you're all still healthy and happy. I have gotten my xs up and running. I am about to go through my carbs and re-clean them and re-set them because I THINK I am running only on 1 cylinder. Here are the reasons I think this: 1) feels like I don't have tons of power on...

    A question about sorcery

Thanks guys. Dave: I’ll get out the shotgun and look around the garage for the elves Paul: That’ll be my first move. Machine: maybe 6 days or so. The turn around time at the shop was SUPPOSED to be 24 hours but they had questions, then the one guy who did wheels was off for 2 days, etc...

    A question about sorcery

Hi all, Hope you’re all doing well in these bonkers times. I think I’ve been secretly attacked by a sorcerer and wanted to see if you guys had suggestions about which counter spells to use / what quantity of sage to burn. Long story short: I took off my wheels to have new tires...

Query: am I just a dope?

Hi Guys! Hope you're all still well and thriving. First off, thanks for all of your advice. A few pieces of good news! First: the results are in, and it appears that the answer to the question of the thread is: yes, I'm simply a dope. Hooray! Second: I've done a few more miles on it...

Query: am I just a dope?

Thanks guys. And apologies if these are dumb questions or newbie questions. I feel like no matter how many years I’m into these bikes I’ll always feel like they are a mystery to some extent :)

Query: am I just a dope?

Lol crap I was gonna say white. It’s certainly not black. Like I said, the thing’s been sitting for 5 years. I was worried that the pistons would be stuck so before I even tried to kick it over I poured some Marvel Mystery Oil into the spark plug hole and let it sit over night. Didn’t have...

Query: am I just a dope?

Hey all, Thanks again for the advice! Seriously. So I took it up and down the block a few times and I dunno, I think maybe it is just that I'm a dope. Seemed to run fine in first gear. I think maybe I just thought I could let the clutch completely out at very low speeds and it seems...

Query: am I just a dope?

Fair enough, grizld1. I'll give it a try without backing it up just to see. I find that when I back it up even a little there's a LOT of free play on the cable. So much that I have to pull the adjuster on the clutch perch almost all the way out. It actually made me wonder if I'd...

Query: am I just a dope?

Hey guys. Sorry for the lag. Been busy w work and the kid all week. First off, thank you all for such insight. I’m going to see if I can’t take it for a small ride up and down my block today and see how she handles. Before I do so, I’m going to set the clutch with your suggestion of NOT...

Query: am I just a dope?

Bike in neutral it kicks over and starts up beautifully. And re first, apologies I always get confused here, if by clutch out you mean NOT pulling in the clutch lever, then no, I can't kick it as the pistons are engaged. When it's off and I put it in first I can't push it either, unless I...

Query: am I just a dope?

Is there a test to see if the clutch is stuck?

Query: am I just a dope?

Apologies for my ignorance here guys, does that mean that the plates themselves are sticking together in the basket? And is it a stuck clutch even though the bike can move forward when I pull in the clutch lever and kinda half let it out, right at the sticking point?

Query: am I just a dope?

Hey guys, First off, I hope everyone and their families are doing ok during these insane times. It's been a while. Long story short, I had my first child 5 years ago and have had my hands FULL for the past several years. So my xs has been sitting. I went through all of the "bring your...

    Rat-a-tat-tat!

Seriously :) I have noticed that my chain is maybe a BIT more wobbly than I'd like, perhaps because the drive sprocket and wheel sprocket aren't 100% lined up properly. I'll have to figure out how exactly to line them up so that the chain runs perfectly :) But seriously thanks for all your...
