how about a thread on dual sport xs's

I don't know that I would stretch it as far as saying ours is a dual sport, but we did a Vermont Backroads bike (link to full build thread on ADV) Looking forward to some spring riding!! :yikes:

    Let's See The XS's

I had some graphics made, but the color wasn't quite right, so they are re-doing it for me.... should look something like this with matching blues.....

    Help! What's this? (with pic)

The picture resolution isn't good...but from your description I would guess that it's the cam chain tensioner/guide.... ....the above from Mike's XS

    Let's See The XS's

I am just finishing up my XS650 Vermont Backroads Special.... Have had a blast doing the project, and the 3 miles I have put on it (up and down the street this winter when the snow went away for a bit) are making me anxious for a good ride! I wrote up a thread (with lotsa pics)...

    No spark, left side.

iirc I got mine through Amazon... cheap, fast, and a very useful tool. You will have to modify the end that goes into the plug cap, since the tool is designed for the fat/screw-on type of spark plug. I simply filed mine down to where it would snap into the tool. Good luck!!

Circuit Breaker vs. Fuse Block for rewire......Opinions Please !!

There are, originally, three TEN amp circuits... if you go fuses, it's a lot easier to "change" the rated capacity, i.e. just plug in 10A fuses. If you do that particular circuitbreaker, it comes with 20A's installed.... I would also look at accesibility, and how you install them...

    No spark, left side.

The coil fires both sides at the same time, every time..... try: swap the right wire over to the left plug? Replace both plugs.... sounds like you have a one-side: bad plug, or bad wire, or bad cap, or something... try that picture above, a very VISUAL indication of whether there is a...

    No spark, left side.

Are you SURE you have no spark? Have you done this: I had a helluva time, but I traded spark plugs when I found that the plug was not sparking..... and it fired up!! .......or just swap plugs and see if the problem swaps to the other side.....

Can not seem to bleed front brakes 1975 xs650

I second the large syringe, use it to force fluid/air up from the caliper. The tricky spot is getting the air out of the top of the line, where it goes into the m/c. Once you have the line full of fluid from the bottom, and fluid in the m/c, crack the outlet fitting and try to force out any...

How to troubleshoot the TCI ignition system

Thanks, yes, I did know that, but what I wrote is not clear, I will edit. Thanks for pointing it out! (My old-motor background is with points/condensors, so the grounding function is pretty obvious there, and it follows that the orange wire "goes to the points".....!

    Coil question

I just went through a lot of stuff with my ignition, and wrote up a short synopsis of testing the TCI ignition system.... spark, coil, pickup coils and tci. Link Sounds like you got it sussed out, after a lot of frustration, but, it IS how we "teach" ourselves sometimes!! :bike:

    Ignition coils off other bikes

The red/white wire is the +, the orange is the signal wire from the TCI box. I have heard that it doesn't matter which is which, but since the two wires have plugs that are good-one-way-only, I always respect that! :)
