    For Sale - 1981 XS650 Special II (H)

Guess I haven't checked in and didn't see any emails regarding responses. Bike is still for sale. I will quit asking for my price and you all can just make rational offers. I just had it out for a ride! Starts right up and sounds good. I will say the charging is "weak" and I throw it on the...

    Help me read these plugs!

I put some " cocktail shaker" mufflers on and left intake stock for now. The bike runs fine it seems but the plugs are trying to tell me something. One is black with a sooty look and the other is gray/white! Pilot jets? They are the same now as for turns out from bottom. Would out of balance do...

    For Sale - 1981 XS650 Special II (H)

For Sale is my 1981 XS. I don't know for sure the mileage but guessing around 20,000. I went through the carbs a few years ago and replaced the diaphragms with the JBM replacements with no issues. Replaced the rear shocks with 3M's 1 1/2" shorter ones to lower the bike a bit. Not gone through...

The perfect BS34 float pin removal tool

Those pictures look like the right thing. The flat bottom is what let me get close and lift the head away from the post. I googled radio shack 6400064 and it shows the nippy cutter for $7.49 but says they are out. There was one on ebay but the pictures look like it is just a different brand name...

The perfect BS34 float pin removal tool

I found this idea here but I am here to tell you it works GREAT! SpecificallyRadio Shacks 5" "nippy cutter" is a small side cutter that has a flat bottom. You just fit them around the large end of the pin and squeeze. It snaps the pin out for a no brainier removal. You don't run the risk of...

    BS34 carb rubber jet plugs

The benefits of having a forum for a resource when you want to do the work on your own is so nice. I have plugs on the way! Then I can tackle the charging issue with some help from Gary. Looking forward to meeting you

    BS34 carb rubber jet plugs

Thanks Gary. I found them on Mikes and they are on the way. To cheap to try to "hack"!

    BS34 carb rubber jet plugs

the rubber jet plugs inside the carbs were soft like mush and one was like old chewing gum. are there replacements from someone or does anyone have a "hack" to replace them. I had the bike sitting for about 18 months and the gas turned to varnish and when I pulled the carbs out and removed the...

    Let's See The XS's

Here is a before and after shot of my '81 H. I have done all the work myself and as economical as I could. 11" rear shocks, new handlebars, went over the carbs, rattle can paint and bought a junk seat (to save my good one) and re upholstered it with a leather cover after I trimmed down the...

    Is the right hand mirror?

my mirror is stock Yamaha. There are notches around the middle so I gave it the needed force and the mirror came loose. You are both correct! Thanks for taking the time to answer a small question!

    Is the right hand mirror?

Is the right hand mirror mount left hand thread? Mine is stuck and before I get "tough" with it I want to make sure I am going in the right/left direction.

    ignition coil

I have a stock 1981 H with original TCI ingnition and I like the yellow wires and red NGK caps for the look. They seem to be associated with Pamco in some way. Can I just get the coil with wires and "drop" it in? Can you suggest a coil replacement with the yellow wires and red caps?

Keeping a grip on your bike

Compressed air. I wonder how long I would have needed to think of that one without this forum. Maybe that is why we have forums! No need to reinvent the wheel. I had some new grips from 3M and they were very tacky which I didn't know until after this thread. It was more a question of...

    11" rear shocks tips question

I bought DDIX32-1151 $99.95 from MMM at 650 Central ($99.00/pair). I haven't put them on yet as I was wanting to know regarding the kickstand so I wouldn't have them on and then be surprised and instead of a ride be caught with more work needed B-4 a ride. I imagine I will chop and weld the...

    11" rear shocks tips question

If you simply put new 11" rear shocks on your bike and don't do anything else I am thinking the kickstands may need modification/removal. I wouldn't mind taking off the main stand and just keeping it in the garage for maintenance stuff but the side stand looks like maybe it would still be okay...
